PWTorch has confirmed with WWE sources that current Ring of Honor champion Tyler Black has signed with WWE. (The news was originally reported on PWInsider.com.)

Black, who has been ROH champion since February, is not scheduled for upcoming ROH Title defenses. He is scheduled for a non-title match vs. ROH's TV champion, Eddie Edwards, on August 27 in Richmond. He's also scheduled for a non-title match against Davey Richards on August 28 in Charlotte.

Depending on how ROH handles Black signing with WWE, Black could defend the ROH World Title on ROH's next Internet PPV on September 11 from New York City. Thus far, ROH has only announced the Kings of Wrestling vs. Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin for the PPV.

In November 2009, Black floated the idea of signing with WWE. Black said he would like to be the "poster boy" of ROH in 2010, but he also said he would want to test himself against current wrestlers in WWE.

"I know I could walk into the WWE and compete with those guys. I could go in there and stand toe-to-toe with anybody in that company and blow them out of the water," Black said on the Monday Might Mayhem radio show in November.

Black added: "Everything has kind of stagnated for the last decade, and hopefully whether it's myself or someone else, we could bring change into the business and infuse some new energy. I'm with Ring of Honor through 2010. If I'm the poster boy and the guy that's going to carry the weight for that world, hopefully it's the World Title, because I would love to have that opportunity and really be the face of the company for the future."

Caldwell's Analysis: ROH could put the belt on Davey Richards for a "farewell tour" to conclude 2010, with Richards saying he plans to retire at the end of the year. In the meantime, ROH will have to groom a new long-term champion to "carry the ball" for ROH to begin next year. Or, they could put the belt back on Austin Aries. Throughout company history, ROH has shown the ability to re-stock as the roster has turned over. We'll see how they rebound from losing the company's champion and their best wrestler in the same year.

As for WWE, they're signing a wrestler with plenty of experience who can handle himself in the ring, but needs polish on the mic. He has the "right size" for WWE and is certainly national TV-ready. It remains to be seen if he goes straight to Raw/Smackdown or goes to developmental first. Based on his look, he would seem to be a good fit in C.M. Punk's Straight Edge Society.
