ROH News: Notes on Toronto Gauntlet match, Nigel McGuinness below-average performances into storyline, ROH selling PWG DVDs Jul 1, 2009 - 5:29:01 PM
-- The next #1 contender to the Ring of Honor World Title, currently held by Austin Aries, will be decided in a "Toronto Gauntlet" match on Saturday, July 25. ROH does not run another show until Friday, July 24 in Toronto.
The Gauntlet match will feature former WWE wrestler D-Lo Brown, former TNA wrestlers Sonjay Dutt and Jimmy Rave, Necro Butcher, and former ROH champion Jerry Lynn, who already has a title shot in his back pocket with a re-match from losing the belt to Austin Aries on June 13.
-- The only two matches confirmed for ROH's next show on July 24 are Kenny Omega vs. Kenny King in an HDNet TV re-match and the Briscoe Brothers vs. the Super Smash Brothers. Bret Hart and Lance Storm are scheduled for autograph appearances before the show.
-- ROH is turning the perceived below-average performances by former ROH champion Nigel McGuinness in his first two matches back from injury into a storyline. The storyline goes that Nigel cannot execute his patented lariat, so he has to "reinvent himself" in the ring. Nigel's opponents for the Toronto shows will be named later.
-- Ring of Honor is partnering with California-based Pro Wrestling Guerrilla to offer PWG DVDs through their online store. PWG is partially owned by Joey Ryan, who recently started wrestling for ROH. ROH's online store is offering the recent "Show #99" and "Show #100" DVDs.
