ROH PPV taping
March 16, 2008
Philadelphia, Pa.
Report by Dustin Q. Diaz, PWTorch Subscriber Since 2005
Great show from the sold out Pennsylvania National Guard Armory. Crowd was hot all night. I think show is called "Take No Prisoners."
NON-PPV MACHES
(1) Davey Richards beat Dingo.
(2) Sara Del Ray beat another woman. Didn't get her name.
PPV TAPING
(1) Tyler Black beat Claudio Castagnoli, Delirious and Go Shiozaki when he pinned Delirious with the phoenix splash to earn a title shot in the main event. Afterwards Black received chants of "Tyler Black" and "next world champ."
(2) Vulture Squad beat Adam Pearce & B.J. Whitmer to earn a tag title shot in Orlando. Afterwards there was an incident between the Squad and Eddie Kingston. It was hard to see from my side though. Match was not taped for pay per view.
(3) Kevin Steen beat Roderick Strong in a non-title match with the package piledriver. Loud "Roderick" and "Mr. Wrestling" chants.
(4) The Briscoes beat Joey Matthews & Necro Butcher in a street fight. Lots of blood and sick spots. They fought all over the building. Lacey and Daizee Haze got into it during the match, of course.
Intermission
(A) Bushwhacker Luke beat Shane Hagadorn with a hanging DDT. This was obviously not taped for pay-per-view.
Next was the Larry Sweeney Show starring Larry Sweeney. Only Bobby Dempsey came out with him. He declared a hostile takeover of Ring of Honor, meaning he'd sign all the best wrestlers and sell their contracts to Vince McMahon. The Hangmen 3 came out and Adam Pearce announced they were joining Sweet 'n' Sour, Inc. Erick Stevens then came out and got in Sweeney's face. He complained he couldn't face Daniel Puder and demanded a match, then was attacked from behind by Brent Alright. Great power match with a lot of impressive moves by both men. Stevens had the match won but a distraction by Sweeney allowed Albright to hit the half nelson suplex for the win. Afterwards Whitmer confronted Pearce about selling out and said he quit the Hangmen 3, then slapped Sweeney. Sweeney told Whitmer he was not essential to the deal, and Pearce and Hagadorn laid out Whitmer with a spike piledriver.
(5) Bryan Danielson beat Austin Aries by submission with an armbar in a fantastic match. I'll buy the pay per view just to see this again. Afterwards, Aries kicked away Danielson's hand instead of shaking it.
(6) Next was the main event. Black came out to new music. He had a starmaking performance that brought the entire crowd to their feet and they stayed there. Yes, this match topped Aries-Danielson. In the end, Black tapped, but got a standing ovation for his efforts.
Ring of Honor returns to Philly on Saturday, June 10 and I have front row seats.
When this pay-per-view comes out, BUY IT IMMEDIATELY. The main event and semi-main were breathtaking, and everything else was good to very good.
TIPS FOR SENDING IN HOUSE SHOW REPORTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to "matchresults07" (@pwtorch. com).
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the & symbol as opposed to stating and. Reserve use of and when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
