WEEKEND EVENT HEADLINES
ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson and Samoa Joe went to a 60 minute draw on August 5 in Edison, NJ. The match was said to have started slow, which signaled to most people attending the show that Danielson and Joe were going to have a long match. The last 20 minutes of the match were said to have been very good. The finish of the match saw Joe lock Danielson in a choke. Danielson struggled for nearly a minute, which reportedly got big heat from the crowd. The ref checked Danielsons’s limp arm once, but the bell rang because the time limit had expired.
ROH booker Gabe Sapolsky tells PWTorch he expects to see Joe and Danielson face off again soon. “It was a great match that was fitting of arguably the two best wrestlers on the planet right now,” he says. “The crowd was going nuts at the end. I think the fans definitely want to see more of these two and they'll get it sooner than later.”
ROH Notebook: ROH has announced that the World and Pure titles will be unified on August 12 in Liverpool England when ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson faces Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness. The match will be held under Pure Title rules and if the match ends in a double pin, double countout, or double DQ, it will be restarted. A title change is guaranteed in this match… ROH recently announced they will return to the Boston area for the first time since April of 2005 on November 3 in Braintree, MA…The winner of the Danielson-McGuinness match in Liverpool will defend against an international competitor in Broxbourne, England on Aug. 13…The August 12 match between ROH World Tag Team Champions Austin Aries & Roderick and The Briscoe Brothers will be the Briscoes last shot at the tag titles as long as Aries and Strong are champions…Jimmy Rave has been dropped from his bookings on September 15 in East Windsor, CT and September 16 in Manhattan, N.Y. because he will be touring with the Dragon Gate promotion in Japan…
