Jim Ross will be the lead announcer Global Force Wrestling's presentation of New Japan's annual Tokyo Dome Show on January 4, 2015, GFW announced Tuesday (November 11).

In a press release, Ross suggested that he will call the PPV live from Tokyo, Japan, which will air at 2:00 a.m. EST on major cable and satellite providers in the U.S. and Canada.

“I am truly honored and excited to have been asked to be a part of this historic event,” Ross said. “To be able to return to my roots and to provide play by play for an amazing, pro wrestling product will be special. I never thought I'd ever return to ringside for a wrestling event, but this opportunity was just too special to turn down.”

As of October 23, Ross wrote at jrsbarbq.com that he had no contact with Global Force officials about calling the PPV. GFW's Jeff Jarrett said in the press release that he "had been working on lining up Ross for weeks," suggesting official discussions began shortly after Ross's blog.

“I’m excited for this event, and I’m excited for good ol’ JR to be a part of it. GFW fans wanted him, and from day one we have said we’re going to give our fans what they want," Jarrett said in Tuesday's announcement.

Ross also wrote on Oct. 23: "So, here's the bottom line, if we do work out something and it's going to take a helluva deal for me to miss my birthday, a weekend in Vegas with my wife and the UFC on January 3 to see @RondaRousey fight to travel to Tokyo to do pro wrestling with a new partner, a new crew, and a new talent roster.

"I'm not looking to do any pro wrestling, but I'm also a businessman and if the offer is one that I can't realistically turn down then we will consider it. And if we commit, I will be 'all in' and will travel to Tokyo to do play by play of a pro wrestling match like it was my last one... It will take a special arrangement for me to want to stick my toe back into that water again. Time will tell but I can swear to everyone that I have no deal as I type this on Thursday, October 23 and have ZERO meetings set up to discuss such."
