Pop music artist Cyndi Lauper praised Captain Lou Albano for boosting her music career in the 1980s in an interview with the Associated Press following Albano's death on Wednesday.
Lauper talked about Albano's appearance in "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" helping move her hit song up the musical charts to the #1 position. AP Report.
The music video was repeatedly played on MTV in 1984 and helped make Lauper a pop star. Lauper then helped boost WWE's profile by appearing on MTV wrestling specials when the promotion was trying to take wrestling across the country.
Lauper and Mr. T's involvement with then-WWF, as well as Hulk Hogan's rise as a national sports figure, increased mainstream interest in the first WrestleMania in March 1985 that helped wrestling become a staple of the entertainment industry.
Albano appearing in Lauper's music video was one of the key moments in the MTV and wrestling boom of the 1980s that created exposure for everyone involved to become successful at the time.
