Other News: New York Yankees bring in new heel pro wrestler, Mark Teixeira, says Boston columnist Jan 7, 2009 - 2:41:56 PM
Boston Red Sox fans have a new heel they can boo from the New York Yankees, who recently signed free-agent star Mark Teixeira. Boston Herald columnist Sean McAdam says it's just like pro wrestling, with Alex Rodriguez being so five years ago.
"In some ways, it’s a bit more like pro wrestling. And just like in wrestling, the story line evolves, the cast of characters change and new villains emerge," says McAdam. "Enter Mark Teixeira." Link:Boston Herald article.
Teixeira could be thought of as the fresh heel, Randy Orton, and that's not much of a stretch at all. Teixeira was born on April 11, 1980. Orton? April 1, 1980.
The WWE connection certainly doesn't stop there. Going back to 2004, it was the Yankees vs. Red Sox playoff game that WWE blamed for one of the lowest PPV buyrates in company history when the debut Taboo Tuesday PPV went up against Game 6 of the ALCS.
The Red Sox are kidding themselves if they think they're not just as bad as
the Yankees. Each of these teams will go out and buy whomever they want if
possible. I used to like Boston because of their NY defiance, but now
they've become clones of the franchise they claim to hate.

Yes the Red Sox have a high payroll but they make their own stars from
their farm system (kinda like WWE developmental). Yankees don't rely much
on drafting and college prospects. They wait for stars to become free
agents and then they give them the most money to come there. This is what
they have always done throughout history which is why they have the most
championships. Will it work for them this season? Maybe, maybe not!
To an extent, the BoSox do bring up some of their farm guys to be impact
players. But they aren't far behind the Yankees in regards to paying off
guys to come play for them.

The Red Sox brought up Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, Jacoby Ellsbury,
Jonathan Papelbon, Jon Lester, Manny Delcarmen, and Jed Lowrie in their
farm system. Those guys may not be household names like Manny Ramirez and
Josh Beckett, but they are the heart and soul of the Red Sox. The Sox do
spend money, but they mostly do it smartly and balance that spending with
quality scouting, smart deals and the best farm system in baseball. Even
the superstar David Ortiz was picked up on waivers from Minnesota on the
cheap before he blossomed into a legendary superstar in Boston.
The Yankees? They have the three highest paid players in baseball. There's
no comparison.

The BoSox have brought some players up through their system, but they
resemble the Yankees when they throw tons of money at free agents to get
them to come there. Not as bad as the Yanks, but 2nd place for sure.

FF you are correct that the Yankees do sign some top Free Agents.
Mr S. the Sox relied heavily on FA to win their WS. Guys like Beckett,
Schilling, Damon, Ortiz, Manny, Wakefield, and Dice-K were the keys to the
Sox titles. None of them came from their system.
The Yankees OTOH had Bernie Williams, Pettitte, Jeter, Soriano, Phil
Hughes, Posada, Mo Rivera, Wang, Cano, and Joba Chamberlain all come from
their farm. Don't act like they buy all their players.

I forgot about JD Drew and Mike Lowell more intricate parts to Sox titles.
They also were not homegrown Sox.

Wasn't it just a couple of years ago the Red Sox paid the Seibu Lions $ 50
mill so they could just talk to Dice-K Matsuzaka? The Boston Red Sox have
plenty of money and they have spent it over the years..e.g. Manny Ramirez,
JD Drew, Curt Shilling, and Pedro Martinez. What is not widely known the
Red Sox also added 2 option years yielding a total of 212 mils for ten
years for Mark Teixeira. How come we don't hear anything about this?

This is for Charles...The Yankees have won 26 WS Championships since 1923.
How is this choking?? The Yankees still have the bragging rights over the
Red Sox 1949,'78,'99,and 2003.
This is choking...1918-2004 without a championship. In July of '78, the Sox
were 14.5 games ahead of the Yankees and the Yankess won the division by
one game. 1986 WS choke to the Mets. 2007-08 Patriots 18-1.HAHA!!!

clearly you know jack about the Yankee farm. Our problem is the best of
the crop is 3-4 years away.
And this guy is a jealous jerk.
