WEEKEND RESULTS, NEWS & NOTES
Gossip Website TMZ reported that Jake “the Snake” Roberts made a fool of himself at a live benefit event in Ohio over the weekend, and it’s captured on video. “The footage shows a stumbling, overweight, rambling Roberts struggling to form a coherent sentence, while addressing the crowd moments before his match in the Firestorm Pro Wrestling league. But the story behind the scenes is even more tragic. According to several sources, the 53-year-old legend was found passed out backstage moments before he was scheduled to perform. We're told when Snake was woken up, he was aggressive, violent and asking for "an 8-ball."
We're also told nearly two dozen empty airplane bottles of vodka were found by his gear.”
The article continues by saying that his opponent, J.T. Lightning grabbed the mic after the match and ripped Roberts apart for being so unable to perform. After the verbal assault, Jake reportedly pulled down his pants and exposed his penis to the crowd. Roberts was not arrested.
In other news…
Only days after announcing a stacked lineup for its next show, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla canceled its Sept. 21 event. The promotion insists that the reason is because the “Battle of Los Angeles” tournament will be held over the final days of October, and they want to prepare for those three shows. I don’t understand why that affects the Sept. 21 show, which is six weeks before the BOLA events, though.
It’s official! There are more than one “Doink the Clowns” operating on the indy scene today. I have received lineups that “Doink” will be wrestling at two separate shows, hundreds of miles apart, on Oct. 25th.
Balls Mahoney will head back to Germany on Oct. 18th to compete for Saarland Wrestling Organisation. Kip James will be appearing for the European Wrestling Promotions in Hannover, Germany Oct. 9, 10, and 11.
And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
