Torch Indy Midweek Report: Briscoe injury; Honky Tonk Man; LAX in JAPW; huge IWC lineup

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO BOOKMARK US & VISIT US DAILY

By Chris Vetter

Torch Indy Reporter Chris Vetter travels thousands of miles each year to see dozens of indy shows all over the Midwest. His reports covering the entire U.S. Indy Scene are usually published exclusively here at PWTorch.com every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

WEEKEND RESULTS, NEWS & NOTES

I’ve had a few days off, so my report is a bit late, but I think I have all the results I’m getting…

One of the biggest stories coming out of the ROH doubleshot weekend is that Mark Briscoe has torn some ligaments in his wrist, and will be out of action for SIX months. I wish Mark well in his recovery! ROH has announced that Austin Aries will help Jay Briscoe defend the titles while Mark is sidelined.

In JAPW, Kenny Omega defeated Frankie Kazarian to retain the JAPW title, while LAX defeated the Rock N’ Rave Infection. The crowd was said to be small for JAPW, somewhere between 350 and 400. Results are below.

Honky Tonk Man wrestled all three days over the weekend, and was on the winning end each night. Results are below.

In other news…

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has signed a deal with Big Vision Entertainment to release DVDs! This is huge news for PWG, as the California-based promotion is perhaps the second-largest indy promotion in the U.S., behind ROH. The deal means PWG DVDs will be available in retail outlets, beginning July 15th, with the appropriate name, “PWG Sells Out.”

Speaking of PWG, I’ve updated the lineup below for their tag tournament May 17 & 18. Because of Mark Briscoe’s injury (mentioned above), the team won’t compete in the tournament, and they’ve been replaced with Shane Matthews & Jagged. Jay Briscoe will still compete in singles action.

IWC out of the Pittsburgh area has its huge annual “Super Indy” show on Friday, April 25th, and I’ve updated the entire lineup below, which features Sandman, Jerry Lynn, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Delirious and more! Learn more at www.iwcwrestling.com.

Congratulations to pro Wrestler Nate Webb (perhaps best know for his role on Wrestling Society X) for making the Indianapolis Mustangs semi-pro football team. Webb has appeared in ROH (briefly!), and is perhaps best known for his hardcore and highflying antics in IWA Mid-South and CZW.

Amazing Kong has been pulled from the NWA Upstate Anniversary show on May 17 because she will be on a TNA house show.

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
