Radio Review: Buff claims leaving WWE was not a mutual decision

Radio Review: Buff Bagwell
Show: "No Holds Barred"
Station: Available on the internet at NoHoldsBarred.com
Date: January 5, 2003
Report by Jason Barrett, PWTorch.com correspondent

This week, Buff Bagwell joined the No Holds Barred radio show on 101.5 WPDH and here are the highlights.

He enjoyed the WWA tour and being able to work with Sting and Lex Luger again. He doesn't see the reason why Luger is catching so much heat overseas as he says he is a pleasure to be with. He did however state that Luger and Sting were moved from a hotel they were at due to it being really rundown and disgusting.

He mentioned he had a 12 show deal with NWA-TNA. NWA-TNA wanted him to drop the Buff character and he did that but then wasn't offered a spot for 6 months. He felt he did all NWA-TNA asked of him and at first took the decision personally but later changed his mind as he feels that money problems had more to do with NWA-TNA not using him.

He feels lack of competition is the main reason for the WWE having ratings problems. He feels Vince should have kept WCW and made some players out of their stars.

He said his WWE release was not mutual, as reported. He said he asked Jim Ross if he could stay with the company but was told that by being released it meant the company could keep the door open to re-hiring him. He said he was told that if he was fired, they could never bring him back. He added it was a pretty strange way of being told he was let go.

He said he enjoyed working with Scott Steiner but added that much competition existed between the two. Steiner would not even give Buff the mic while working on Nitro. He feels the angle with Steiner was killed too soon by WCW and talked about how 5 years ago, Steiner could not cut a promo, but he became a big star.

Buff mentioned that he has spent a lot of time with Sting lately and says he notices that he is re-energized. He added that Sting has talked with WWE about schedules and dollars but nothing has been worked out just yet.

Buff closed the interview by talking about his experiences speaking in with the Road Warriors, Sting and Ted DiBiase and joked about not being invited for the RAW 10th Anniversary Special but asked JB and George to have Vince call him.

No Holds Barred airs on 101.5 WPDH in Poughkeepsie, NY every Sunday night at 9pm. Log on to www.noholdsbarredwrestling.com to hear the entire interview.
