WEEKEND RESULTS, NEWS & NOTES
IWA Mid-South ran a double-header over the weekend. However, two of the biggest advertised names, B.J. Whitmer and Demolition Ax, did not make it to the shows. Chuck Taylor defeated Mickie Knuckles to win the women’s title on Saturday! Results are below.
Low Ki retained his JAPW Heavyweight title in front of 275 paid fans in Carteret, N.J., on Saturday, and results are below.
In Chikara Pro on Saturday, Lince Dorado made Chris Hero tap out. This was a BIG show for Pennsylvania-based Chikara Pro, as they ran in Wallingford, Conn. Results are below.
Christy Hemme won a match in Superior, Wis., on Saturday, defeating Ann Brookstone, in front of 500 paid fans for Heavy On Wrestling. Molly Holly was the special referee in the women’s contest.
In other news…
In some big news for the Midwest, Fight Sports Midwest has canceled its show on Aug. 3. This is the second consecutive show it has canceled. (This one was supposed to be in the Midlothian Rec Center, the home of IWA Mid-South). I hope that FSM doesn’t vanish like Pro Wrestling Elite and Pro Wrestling Xplosion both did after just a couple of shows, but this is a bad sign. I’ve reviewed the DVDs of both FSM shows for the Torch, and you can learn more about this promotion as www.fightsportsmidwest.com.
Minnesota wrestler Thoruf Marius is currently on a NOAH tour in Japan. Thoruf is bald and a legit 6’7,” but he’s still fairly green. His size alone should get him a few looks, though.
I mentioned Friday I was going to concerts! I saw Saliva play Friday, and lead singer Josey Scott let everyone know that “Ladies & Gentlemen” was the WrestleMania theme song before launching into the song. Glad to see some people aren’t shying away from their connection to wrestling right now. He also essentially cut a wrestling promo on-screen before the band took the stage, even saying “Lawler,” which I’m sure, few fans at the rock show got.
And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
