Torch Indy Midweek Report: CIMA headed to PWG, Christian Cage, Monty Brown, Sonjay Dutt

Jun 21, 2006 - 3:33:00 PM
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO BOOKMARK US & VISIT US DAILY

By Chris Vetter, Torch Contributor

Torch Indy Reporter Chris Vetter travels thousands of miles each year to see dozens of indy shows all over the Midwest. His reports covering the entire U.S. Indy Scene are usually published exclusively here at PWTorch.com every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

MIDWEEK NEWS & NOTES

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has announced that Japanese star CIMA will be in the 2006 “Battle of Los Angeles” tournament the first weekend of September. CIMA, who wrestles for Dragon Gate, has impressed Ring of Honor fans with his recent tours of the U.S.

PWG has expanded the BOLA tournament to three nights this year, with 24 wrestlers competing, leading to a three-way finale. Also announced for the tournament so far is Scorpio Sky and East Coast high-flyer M-Dogg 20. Check out this tournament at www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/BOLA2006/

Maryland Championship Wrestling has announced a big show on July 22 in Odenton, Md., with Christian Cage, Monty Brown and Sonjay Dutt all in action. Learn more at www.marylandwrestling.com.

New England Championship Wrestling has moved its show this Saturday from the Boys & Girls Club in Salisbury, Mass., to the Framingham Civic League in Framingham, Mass. I’ve updated their lineup below, and you can check them out at www.NECWwrestling.com.

Here in the Midwest, Neo Pro Wrestling announced on Monday it is shutting down, effective immediately. The original Neo Pro promoter, Eli McCausland, is apparently being forced out, and a new promotion with many of the same wrestlers is likely to begin. This news saddens and frustrates me. I considered Neo Pro the best promotion in MN in 2002 and 2003, and wrestlers like Austin Aries, Ken (Kennedy) Anderson and Shawn Daivari were on most of those shows.

However, rosters change. Nick Mondo, who is best known for his hardcore battles in CZW and having a character in a “Backyard Wrestling” videogame, retired. Others moved out of state, and the remaining roster didn’t pack in the fans.

Future DVD & tape reviews: I have finished watching Combat Zone Wrestling’s “Best of the Best 6,” featuring the ROH-CZW war from the CZW point of view. That review should be up tomorrow. I am going to try to watch several ROH DVDs this week before heading to ROH on Saturday; reviews of those shows from March & April will come as soon as I can get to them!

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.

WEEKEND RESULTS

Nothing new to report.
