Torch Indy Weekend Report: Punk retains in ROH, Jacobs retains in IWA-MS, Sandman no-shows

By Chris Vetter, Torch Contributor

Torch Indy Reporter Chris Vetter travels thousands of miles each year to see dozens of indy shows all over the country. His reports covering the entire U.S. Indy Scene are usually published exclusively here at PWTorch.com every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

WEEKEND PREVIEW, NEWS & NOTES

Unfortunately, the big news of the weekend was the sheer number of no-shows on wrestling cards.

In New Jersey, Teddy Hart and Sandman failed to make it to the JAPW show. JAPW was really pushing the Sandman match against Rhyno, which obviously failed to take place. However, JAPW had a surprise debut in Charlie Haas, who wrestled in the six-man main event. JAPW officials claim that attendance was 700. Results of the show are below.

In Midlothian, Ill., IWA-Mid South had six wrestlers not appear – Sal Thomaselli, Chad Collyer, B-Boy, Delirious, Japanese wrestler Kudo, and Mark Wolf. Promoter Ian Rotten responded to several angry posts on the IWA-Mid South message board from people who were upset at the significant number of cancellations, not just on this show, but on many recent IWA-Mid South shows. “I will say I didn't lie about anyone being booked,” Ian Rotten wrote. “When people have to travel to get places, things do indeed go wrong. No-shows and things going wrong are very disappointing to me also.”

On the IWA-Mid South show, Jimmy Jacobs defeated Jerry Lynn to retain his heavyweight title, while Danny Daniels defeated Matt Sydal in a non-title match. (Sydal holds the Midwest X Title.) Results of the show are below.

The big show of the weekend was Ring of Honor in Woodbridge, Conn., where Matt Hardy defeated Christopher Daniels, and CM Punk defeated James Gibson to retain the ROH Heavyweight title. Sounds like it was another good show. Results are below.

I attended a Northern Impact Wrestling show Saturday afternoon in New Hope, Minn., then a Neo Pro Wrestling event in Cottage Grove, Minn., that night, where I spoke briefly with Nora “Molly Holly” Greenwald. She is turning down interviews at this time because she is releasing a shoot interview soon. She did want to say that Internet reports stating she was upset about the WWE diva contest are inaccurate; she said she looked forward to working with the new women. She declined to say if she would return to wrestling. However, it is clear she is still a fan of wrestling, and she appeared to enjoy the show. Overall, she appeared to be in good mood and was friendly to everyone.

Low Ki will return to Chaotic Wrestling in Methuen, Mass., on Saturday, Aug. 6, to take on Handsome Johnny. Go to www.chaoticwrestling.com for more details.

WAW of the Washington DC area has stated that former 3PW co-owner Jasmin St. Claire is now a co-owner of WAW.

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
