Bellator 138 News & Notes

-- TNA star Bobby Lashley defeated Dan Charles in a Heavyweight division fight on the Bellator fight card that aired Friday night on Spike TV from St. Louis, Mo.

Lashley (now 13-2) soundly defeated Charles (now 9-3) when referee John McCarthy stopped the match at 4:14 of the Second Round.

Lashley just wore out Charles with strikes, kicks, and suplexes to the point where ref McCarthy was forced to stop the match because Charles was not fighting back.

The final tally was Lashley landing 84 strikes to Charles's 5 total.

Lashley was originally scheduled to fight James Thompson in a re-match from Lashley's most-recent loss in May 2012. However, Thompson pulled out of the fight, introducing Charles as a last-minute opponent.

In a post-fight interview, Lashley wore an "Impact Wrestling" cap and said he wants to keep going after Hvt. division fighters until he challenges for the Hvt. Title. Lashley, 38, would have to increase the rate of fights to achieve that goal. His previous fight was in October 2014.

-- Former WWE Intercontinental champion Ken Shamrock lost his first Bellator MMA fight against Kimbo Slice, who was also making his Bellator debut.

Shamrock, showing every bit of his 51-years-old, dominated the first two minutes of the fight, executing a rear-naked choke submission. However, he was unable to force a tap out and then he was unable to maintain the hold on the mat.

Replays showed Shamrock releasing his grip on Slice, who out-weighed Shamrock by 30 pounds. Slice immediately capitalized with consecutive blows to the face when both men came to their feet, resulting in a knockout.

In a post-fight interview, Shamrock noted that he made a mistake by not taking his time in the submission and lost the advantage during the scramble to their feet, giving Slice an opening.

The announced fight time was 2:22, but the graphic showed 2:45.

Before the fight, Shamrock was led to the cage by former WWE tag champion "Road Warrior" Animal (Joe Laurinaitis), whose son, James Laurinaitis, plays for the St. Louis Rams NFL team.

-- Bellator also announced a big fight card for September 19 in San Jose. The main event will feature former TNA roster member Tito Ortiz.

Also announced is former TNA roster member King Mo competing in a one-night, four-man Light heavyweight division tournament.

King Mo came out on-stage sporting a Young Bucks "Guilty" t-shirt, paying tribute to one of the top tag teams on the independent wrestling scene.
