UFC News: Results of Kimbo Slice vs. Roy Nelson on The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV Sep 30, 2009 - 10:21:13 PM
In what will assuredly be the highest rating for an episode of The Ultimate Fighter and one of the most watched fights in MMA history, former IFL Heavyweight Champion Roy Nelson defeated street fighter and "YouTube Sensation" Kimbo Slice in the second round by TKO.
The referee stopped the fight when, for the second round in a row, Nelson took Kimbo to the ground, wrapped him up, and pounded on the top of his head repeatedly with no sign of Kimbo have any way to escape.
Kimbo didn't seem especially fazed by the punches, but he also didn't show any signs of knowing how to get out of that situation.
Nelson celebrated his win by asking for a hamburger. Dana White commented that Nelson threw punches that looked like his "little sister" in a play fight, yet celebrated like he had just accomplished something special.
Kimbo, who came across as a down-to-earth nice guy just wanting to become a well-rounded fighter, was gracious in losing, but admitted he was bummed out about it.
In an attempt to retain as many viewers as possible in future weeks, UFC hyped that a fighter on Kimbo's team collapses on next week's show, so Kimbo could be brought back for another first round fight. Kimbo also said he wants to learn as much as he can for the rest of the season no matter what happens otherwise.
Nelson, a former heavyweight champion of a defunct minor league, commented that he could have earned a big payday with that fight if it were on PPV, but he got to show off his skills to record audience.
