GUEST EDITORIAL
By Bradly Torrey, Torch reader
This guest editorial is written by a former huge TNA fan. A TNA fan up until tonight. Just like many fellow wrestling fans, I fell in love with the X Division when I first saw it on Fox Sports Net. I saw some familiar faces that drew me in to watch, but it was the X Division and the innovation that kept me watching.
The first PPV I ordered was the original Turning Point highlighted by a cage match that led to Elix Skipper's "catwalk on the cage." At that moment, my friends and I were hooked. We loved watching the X Division, just like many others. The innovation and skill set of the wrestlers in the ring was captivating and seemed to signal the start of a revolutionary new product.
Fast forward to tonight. I stuck by TNA this long, but the reason wasn't because of a great product. It was because I longed for the day someone in the inner circle would bring about a change that would bring back my beloved X Division. If I wanted to see Hulk Hogan, Scott Steiner, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, or any other fifty-year-old wrestler, I could go to YouTube.
When I saw the spoilers that Jim Neidhart was booked to defeat Jay Lethal, I said to myself, "enough." I give up, TNA. No longer will I curse in my head at the criticisms by the writers at PWTorch, no longer will I watch Raw and think how cool it will be when TNA catches up with them, and no longer will I believe that the X Division will come back to life. I do not care how it happened (interference, cheating, or whatever), there is no way in hell that Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart should ever, at his age, pin Jay Lethal. Wasn't it Jay Lethal who pinned Kurt Angle on Impact one time? Wow, talk about the Billy Kidman curse.
There is no reason for me to watch TNA anymore. I do not care for WWE, but since TNA has become WWE-lite, I might as well just watch the real deal. I should have seen the signs a long time ago. Petey Williams, Senshi, Sonjay Dutt, and Kaz (Suicide does not exist in my head) are gone. In their place? Mick Foley past his prime, Jim "the Anvil," Rhino, and Kevin Nash. I should have seen it coming. Ten years ago, of course I would take the second group over the unestablished wrestlers. However, it's 2009, not 1999! How did I not see this coming?
The X Division was refreshing and simply awesome. Just like Awesome Red, wait what is his name again? That is no shot at Amazing Red; it's just that you have to put your DVR on slow-motion to be able to catch a glimpse of him on Impact.
In conclusion, I just want to say sorry to PWTorch. Sorry for getting upset at all the times I thought you had an agenda and were just trying to get more support for WWE. Sorry that up until now I thought you were on a wild goose chase when criticizing TNA's product. Now that the X Division seems to be completely meaningless, my only hope for TNA is that Desmond Wolfe and A.J. Styles collide and have an epic feud. It's too bad I will not be watching. Maybe I will catch it on YouTube.
