EDITORIAL: Why tonight may be the very last time I watch TNA Impact Oct 8, 2009 - 6:31:27 PM
GUEST EDITORIAL
By Forrest Mahaffey of Des Moines, Ia.
Sadly, this may be the very last time that I watch TNA wrestling. I have a been a big fan of it for so long, especially in the beginning. I am a huge wrestling fan and I don't like only having WWE programs to choose from for my "fix" of pro wrestling. However, TNA has been nothing even close to sports entertainment. They have been different from the WWE, but almost a clone of the worst that WCW was doing in 2000.
I don't want to see Booker T there anymore; if the rumors are true, I can't wait for him to get back to the WWE.. I wish Kurt Angle would go back, too. WWE is lacking high energy feuds, writing, and performers. Having some of the old faces return would refresh and rejuvinate their product and it would be fun.
TNA wasn't lacking depth, they were and are lacking substance. Last week, I turned it on to watch Mick Foley and Abyss scream at each other over a painting for something like 20 minutes. Twenty minutes!!!! That is a waste of time, and I actually flipped on my WWE Classics on Demand, only switching back over to see if they were done yet. TNA has (or had) the talent to book and exciting and enjoyable two hours of PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING that would be almost completely different from what the WWE is doing and much more exciting to watch. They would chip into that pro wrestling fan demographic, and all though they might not get a huge rise in ratings, I think they would get a boost.
The way that TNA is booked now, makes me want to change the channel and keep it off. They are wasting guys like A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe, Chritopher Daniels, James Storm, Bobby Rude, and the list goes on. Then there are the extremely talented guys that they've let go that could help TNA go up in the ratings like Petey Williams, Sonjay Dutt, and I could go on and on.
What a waste TNA has become. They went from being an exciting new development and wrinkle in the world of sports entertainment, to WWE wannabes, to WCW-lite, to whatever they are now. And whatever they are now is flat out not entertaining. I continue to watch for some glimmer that they will actually use all of their talent correctly. I would really like for them to book one show that had nothing but professional wrestling on it and advertise it properly as such, just to see how the ratings would do. However, I know that realistically, I will be watching the same crap that I have been for months.
And if that's the case, I'm done watching TNA wrestling. And that's sad.
