GUEST EDITORIAL

I was just looking at Raw tonight and was wondering why DX keeps getting booked into main events and what not. It also had me thinking that if they’re going to continue to be put into the main event, why not do it with some fresh talent? Not someone Big Show and Jericho or the likes of Legacy, who has Orton’s rub. I mean some fresh “out of the blue” talent. Now a lot would have to go into this idea, starting with the reformatting of the Survivor Series format. That probably won’t happen, but let’s just suspend belief.
Now over the years if there is anything that I connect to DX, it has been the Montreal Screwjob. Shawn won the belt in that match. And with the replaying of that event with Taker-Punk, it is relevant again. Also, in the “WWE Universe” or whatever you want to call it, there has been a lot of talk of talent not being available or even ready to be next on the list to be the next “WWE Superstar.” So consider this a two-for-one plan.
Why not have DX feud with the Hart Dynasty? Now I know Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith may not be ready for the big time, but if there’s anytime to see what you have with the young guys, I think it is now. Plus, it makes the most sense to me with the refresher of the Screwjob, interest in bringing Bret back, and stale upper card matches. And logically, why wouldn’t they have issue with the guys who screwed over Bret?
I can see it playing out where The Hart Dynasty can interrupt a match on Raw and cut a shoot-style promo speaking on how it makes them sick that WWE would take something as controversial as the Montreal Screw Job and mock it as if it is a joke. THD can also speak on how that is family they are joking around with and that WWE is doing the same thing they did to Bret Hart with them. That would be holding back their talents and trying to sabotage their careers. Lastly, in what makes the most sense to me, I think they can set their sights on Shawn and Hunter. Comments saying they were in on the whole thing and looking for retribution for Bret.
This can’t happen tomorrow, but it would fit perfect into the Bragging Rights PPV format as it would put Raw vs. Smackdown. It would give DX new opponents with logic and not just throwing together garbage. I think Tyson and Bret would mesh together well in styles and DHS is a big brute that Triple H can bang around with. Also, I could see the match at the Bragging Rights PPV ending in some type of DQ where The Hart Dynasty would lose but put a small hurting on DX (maybe with a run-in from a third member) setting up the Survivor Series match.
Here the thought is that The Hart Dynasty could say they wanted to bring more damage to DX and had someone (the run-in) join in on the fun, I don’t know who the third person would be, but I think eventually this could be a way to bring Bret back in for A four-on-four Survior Series match. I am not sure if the WWE would want to take away cheers from Bret, but I think it would be awesome if they brought him back as a sour heel to join his kin.
This would make it Team Hart vs. Team DX at Survivor Series with Bret finally being able to get his hand on Shawn. On a side note, I think if the DX thing is going to stick around, they should introduce some new members to get some of Shawn and Hunter’s rub. So at least pair them with a couple young guys to fill the team. Maybe like a Evan Bourne, someone who can keep selling the DX merch if they wanted to go that route. The new X-Pac? Back to the match. Obviously, let Bret do some light ring work, leaving the heavy stuff to the kiddies. But it would be epic to see Shawn and Bret in the same ring.
To spice things up, hell, maybe this is where Hunter turns on Shawn in the feud, saying he knew Vince was going to screw Bret and reveal that Shawn was the only one who didn’t know about it. All while Team Hart is persecuting Shawn about his role in the events, he can deny it true babyface style. This could lead to Hunter saying he is tired of Shawn’s good boy antics and drop the swerve on him. Maybe this could eventually lead to Bret turning face (eventually believing Shawn) and finally shaking hands with Shawn in the ring.
I don’t know, it may be lame but I think it would be a good way to introduce some new blood to get some rub off the true big boys, a way to bring Bret back and get Shawn vs. Hunter going into Mania.
Keller's Reaction: In general, I'm for almost anything that creates a new mix between top names and emerging names. That said, the downside to the plan is simply how boring David Hart Smith is - as in negative-charisma at this point. Tyson Kidd is good, but I don't see him being close to a major singles player. But a feud with DX would elevate them - if they weren't just squashed by DX - in a position to be a star tag team, assuming fans could ever get past how utterly bland Smith is.
Also, DX wouldn't need Evan Bourne when the real live X-Pac is still out there, available, and last time I saw him, wrestling a four-star match in Downtown Minneapolis at the famed First Avenue nightclub against Jerry Lynn in a reunion of their late-'80s indy feud that put both on the radar.
I'm also not crazy about anything that would involve Bret Hart returning to the ring given that he had a stroke and isn't physically able to safely wrestle. If there was one thing Bret took pride in, it was that he never injured an opponent, something he held against Goldberg who prematurely brought his career to an end. But if Bret wants to return, and he can work a very controlled and safe eight-man tag, then who is anyone to stop him?
