This article will propose the possible card for Summerslam, the buildup needed for each particular feud and the aftermath. All feuds are possible feuds and may not happen. These are merely my ideas and do not reflect what will happen at Summerslam. Usually there are only eight matches in a PPV, so my proposed ten is over the limit.
1. DiBiase & Rhodes vs. Cryme Tyme for Tag Team Title Belts - No DQ Match
BUILDUP
Jim Duggan and Jerry Lawler continue on how Dibase-Rhodes don't respect the generation before them. Dibase-Rhodes get in cheap shots and Cryme Tyme come to save them. Focus could be on that Dibase-Rhodes are true "students of the game" and that Cryme Tyme are not good role models or wrestlers, while Cryme Tyme wants to prove them wrong. Dibase-Rhodes can use their relationship with JBL to further mess with Cryme Tyme.
OUTCOME
Thanks to the interference of Duggan-Lawler, Cryme Tyme wins the belts (and do so in a "good" way because of the no DQ).
AFTERMATH
Dibase-Rhodes will claim that their titles were "stolen" from them. They would further their attacks on Duggan-Lawler until they get their titles back. This would further ground Dibase-Rhodes' heel tendencies, while making Cryme Tyme a actual real viable tag team on Raw.
2. Kane vs. Rey Mysterio
BUILDUP
Kane goes on a monster rampage. Mysterio comes out and stands up to him.
OUTCOME
Mysterio gets the win, which sets off Kane even further.
AFTERMATH
Both wrestlers can play their parts really well here: Kane can even become more of a "monster" by targeting a fan favorite, and Mysterio can prove that he's not afraid of Kane. In my head I see a possible "Inferno Match" of Kane vs. Mysterio with Mysterio doing a 619, but the idea is very, very unlikely to happen. I think I keep clamoring for a "Inferno Match" because Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 will have such a "speciality match", and I think it would sell more videogames that way.
3. Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry - ECW Championship
BUILDUP
Matt is portrayed by Henry as weaker and has never won a major championship.
OUTCOME
Matt pulls off a good fight, but Henry cheats and picks up the win.
AFTERMATH
This thing will probably play itself out more in future weeks.
4. Umaga vs. Kennedy vs. MVP vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Big Show vs. Finlay vs. John Morrison vs. Shelton Benjamin - U.S. Championship
BUILDUP
Benjamin comes out and says that he's ready to take anybody. All of the above men show up and want a title shot. The justification for Hardy being in the match would be that the U.S. Championship could be a "stepping stone" to the WWE Championship. Although MVP vs. Jeff would also be a ideal single match, Jericho vs. HBK will already fill that void. Weeks leading up to the PPV show different combinations of wrestlers facing off against each other.
OUTCOME
Benjamin pulls off the win and gains credibilty.
AFTERMATH
I don't know. I put this match together since a lot of matches on this PPV seem to be mostly singles, and I thought this might liven things up.
5. Jericho vs. HBK - Submission Match
BUILDUP
Jericho rubs it in HBK's face that he was glad about what he did to him at Wrestlemania 19. Jericho points out that nobody could claim that HBK was a better wrestler than Jericho when he makes HBK tap. HBK fights with a bandage over a eye (or a eyepatch, which would be rocking) seriously throwing doubt into if HBK should even wrestle at all. Since as a wrestling fan we have been bombarded with gimmick matches (especially thanks to TNA) that it's been a long while since we've seen a submission match. Hell in a Cell already fulfills the "brutal match" aspect, so a "First Blood Match" or a "I Quit" match would be out of the question.
OUTCOME
Probably HBK picks up the win. Could go either way.
AFTERMATH
They continue this feud as long as it can go.
6. Triple H vs. The Great Khali - WWE Championship
BUILDUP
Edge sides with Khali and his translator in order to join his team, since he wants "protection" against the Undertaker and any other thing Vickie throws his way. Triple H gets injured by Edge or his cronies in order to "soften" him up. Thus, Edge helps out the Great Khali out in order for Khali to win the championship and therefore make it easier for Edge to win. Triple H gets injured at the same spot (leg quad) that was injured last year, when he returned to Summerslam. A "injury angle" (which Triple H can do very well) would plant a seed into doubt into if Triple H can retain his title. As it stands right now, Triple H vs. Khali stands to just be another match that will not really help anybody out. A injury angle would show the "cerebral" side of the WWE champion (proving that you need brains to be champion, not just muscle) and it would prove that Khali and his translator will do anything to win the championship. Triple H has been portrayed as this unstoppable machine, and no ammount of "look how big Khali is" talk is going to sway people who follow WWE programming.
OUTCOME
Gutting it out, Triple H wins.
AFTERMATH
The above buildup is highly unlikely. Triple H proves he is the man while Khali goes to Hollywood or becomes a tag team with Big Show(?)
7. Edge vs. Undertaker - Hell in a Cell
BUILDUP
On the Smackdowns leading up to the PPV, Edge pleads with Vickie to cancel the match. She responds by punishing him in tough matches (handicap matches, etc.) As stated before, Edge sides with Khali and his translator. Edge shoots back at Vickie and says that he will not even be at that match. Vickie demands that he do so, or risk being fired. On the day of the PPV, Edge says that he is "injured", and thus has medical clearance to not compete. At the end of the Triple H vs. Khali match, Edge tries to interfere but gets knocked out with a sledgehammer. With Edge lying motionless in the ring, the Cell begins to be lowered down. As Edge wakes up, he begins to dawn on him with great horror that he is stuck in the cell...and then Undertaker's music hits.
OUTCOME
Undertaker wins easily. This Hell in the Cell would be based more on "Edge trying to escape" and the return of the Undertaker.
AFTERMATH
As the cell is being raised, Vickie comes in and cries over Edge. Undertaker is incensed and gives Vickie a tombstone (as she cost him the championship). Undertaker goes on to fight with Triple H, while Edge and Vickie deal with Jeff Hardy.
8. Women's Match - Beth Phoneix w/Santino Marrella vs. Somebody
The comedy act of the show. The above could be a possibility, Santino betraying Phoneix and thus establishing her chasing after Santino, or Santino vs. Phoneix for the women's championship(?)
9. John Cena vs. Batistia
BUILDUP
Cena claims that he wants a piece of Batistia. "You may be the animal, but I'm a solider who ready for war!" may be one cheesy quote from Cena. Batistia says that Cena thinks he is the top dog on Raw, and their match will prove who is the best. Over the weeks they play a game of one up manship, with Batistia playing a slightly heelish role (he can get away with it, Cena can't).
OUTCOME
Batistia wins.
AFTERMATH
This feud will probably go pass Unforgiven and the other WWE PPVs.
10. JBL vs. CM Punk - World Heavyweight Championship
BUILDUP
JBL says that CM Punk doesn't look like a champion. JBL touts his own history. Punk says that JBL is a scumbag.
OUTCOME
JBL throws every bit of trickery (breaking the rules, having his private force come in, having Dibase-Rhodes distract the ref) and yet Punk will not give up. Just as it looks like Punk is going to win, Vince McMachon comes down and blasts Punk. JBL wins the title. The show ends with JBL and Vince raising their arms in victory.
AFTERMATH
Vince, absolutely paranoid and delusional, believes it was Punk who caused that "stage accident" that nearly killed him. JBL provides him with "tape evidence" that it was Punk. After all, Steph and Shane said that they wanted Raw to come under control. Vince made sure that control would be in place with JBL being the champion. Vince and JBL, both businessmen, make it their goal to make Punk's a living hell until he quits. I realize that this is pretty much Austin vs. Vince, but if Punk wins cleanly, there is not really a whole lot of incentive (i.e. no real running main storyline like Vickie-Edge on Smackdown) to watch the next Raw. Later down the road JBL could confess that it was him who set up the "stage accident" because he was disgusted with Vince, giving away free money and making the product more "kid friendly". With help from Steph and Shane, he wanted to take over the company from the inside out. Vince could play the sympathic character.
