GUEST EDITORIAL

Oh man, I remember back in 2003/2004... Hell, even 2005: John Cena was so cool.
There had never been a guy that could take such a seemingly one-dimensional gimmick and integrate it into his own personality to make it work. Whether it was his hilarious freestyles or solid matches put on Smackdown, there was no denying one thing - John Cena was the man.
Sooner or later, fans started resenting Cena for being pushed like a god, which is completely understandable (like we need ANOTHER Hulk Hogan-like run from a wrestler). Wrestling is an industry that needs to keep freshening things. I'm not saying go the 1999 route with 11 world title changes, but just new faces in the main event picture.
WWE has integrated new stars over the years into the main event scene quite well. From Edge to Randy Orton to the new World Heavyweight Champion C.M. Punk, you can say WWE has taken pushed new stars every now and then. The problem with John Cena is not him being in every main event because he no longer is anyway.
The problem with John Cena is that his character is so cheesy, that even little kids must think he's a loser. Sure, he sells merchandise and is an excellent performer in the ring. He may not have all the mechanics, but Cena can put on some great matches against WWE's best and worst (I'm talking to you, Khali).
That being said, if you don't believe me when I say Cena is cheesy, do yourself a favor. Watch Raw from last week. Cena made a joke about pooping for three hours during a major opening segment. To make matters worse, later in the show he sprayed the words "JBL is poopy" on JBL's limo.
I know WWE is trying to market themselves to kids, but for the love of all things not corny, he could have at least sprayed the word "crap" instead. That's just one of the many failed attempts by Cena and the creative team to portray him as funny and slick.
Newsflash: John Cena is not The Rock. I respect John Cena and his hard work, but I say it should be time to turn him heel. Nobody will see it coming and the turn would certainly draw its fair share of money for the sort-of-dead Vince McMahon and Co.
Think about it. Imagine John Cena turning heel in similar fashion like Hulk Hogan did back 1996, saying he did everything for the money. John Cena could have a great feud with C.M. Punk, stating all the fans turned on him and chose the new World Champion as their guy instead.
In my mind, that feud could equal huge buys for an event like, say, Summerslam. I mean come on, folks. What could WWE possibly do with Cena as a face that they already haven't done?
WWE Champion? Check. Sell merchandise? Check. Have almost all of the 18-34 male demographic turn on him? Definitely check.
