Evolve 43 iPPV Live Report
May 30, 2015
Woodside, Queens, N.Y. at LaBoom Night Club
Report by VIP member Kyle A. Petrano

The bell time was scheduled for 6:00 p.m. EST, but due to the FTW show beforehand, bell-time was delayed until 6:45 p.m. I will say that the lighting was terrible. The event was at bar night club, so they used strobe lights throughout the show and multi-color lights. I'm curious how it transfer on iPPV.

Due to the show being at a nightclub, it's hard to tell how full the building actually was. I will say the lighting definitely made the crowd seem much bigger than it actually was, but they went crazy all night long. Also of note, EVOLVE really stressed TNA Impact Wrestling throughout the entire show, with Davey Richards, Drew Galloway, and T.J. Perkins (Manik in TNA) wrestling. I found it weird how many references there were.

Premier Athlete Brand opened the show. So Cal Val opened with a promo about losing the Tag Titles at EVOLVE 42. So Cal tried to recruit Roderick Strong, saying she left him a key to her hotel room so they could "talk business." (Strong, who wrestled for ROH on Saturday, is scheduled for Sunday's EVOLVE show.)

(1) Rey Horus beat Anthony Nese in a "veteran vs. new talent" match. Very good, entertaining match. The crowd was into the entire match. Good idea to have two wrestlers who can go start off the show to wake up the New York crowd. I had a great laugh to hear the referee's name was Adam West. Anthony Nese and Caleb Konley had a disagreement after the match .

(2) Davey Richards beat Caleb Konley. All I can say is this match was epic. Great match. Davey Richards is probably one of the best wrestlers to watch live. I have seen a lot of Caleb Konley and it's nice to see how much he has improved over the years.

Davey grabbed the mic and cut a promo about wanting an Evolve Championship match. He popped the crowd when he requested So Cal Val take off her top and they could talk business all night long.

(3) T.J. Perkins beat Mike Bailey in another "veteran vs. new talent" match. This was an MMA-style match. I was disappointed with T.J., as it seemed like he mailed it by his usual standards. But, Mike Bailey exceeded my expectations. By the end of match - what can I say? I’m fan now. He did a freaking standing Red Arrow.

(4) Chris Hero beat Trevor Lee in another "veteran vs. new talent" match. Amazing match. This was my match of the night thus far. Amazing finish to the match. Afterward, Hero faked a post-match attack and instead raised his hand. Hero did a lot to put over Trevor Lee - Hero hit him with three elbows, then a piledriver, and finally a Tombstone Piledriver for the win.

(5) DGUSA Open The United Gate champions Johnny Gargano & Rich Swann beat Drew Gulak & Tracey Williams, his new protege, to retain the Tag Titles. Very fun tag match. It was really cool how both teams have totally opposites styles and they gelled to have a great match, in my opinion.

Swann cut a post-match promo about how awesome facing men like that is. Gargano then cut a promo saying DGUSA is the past. They vacated the Tag Titles and also retired the titles. They said they want a new title made called the Evolve Tag Team Championships.

(6) DGUSA Open The Freedom Gate champion Drew Galloway beat Biff Busick to retain the DGUSA Title. Great Main Event. They brawled into crowd and broke someone's chair. I was glad it was the end of the show for that poor guy. This was my match of the night; I loved the ending.

Galloway cut a post-match promo about his match tomorrow night at EVOLVE 44 against Roderick Strong. Johnny Gargano came out and asked Drew Galloway to retire the DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate Championship, but Drew Galloway said kiss my ass and offered Johnny Gargano a re-match, which I am very excited for. Galloway made his exit. Gargano then cut a promo on "All Ego" Ethan Page for their match tomorrow at EVOLVE 44. He thanked the crowd for coming to close the show.
