Chikara "Out on a Limb" results
March 7, 2015
Gibsonville, N.C.
Report by Chris Davidson of Lynchburg, Va.

Gibsonville has seemingly become Chikara's go-to city whenever they head south of the Mason-Dixon line. It's understandable, as tonight's show was nearly full with many fans stuck in standing room only. The good people of Chikara have visited numerous other cities on recent Southern tours, but always have time for a show in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic. Tonight's show was yet another in a long line of entertaining Chikara cards.

(1) Princess Kimberlee & Jervis Cottonbelly beat The Wrecking Crew (Jaka & Flex Rumblecrunch w/Sidney Bakabella), The Colony (Fire Ant & Worker Ant), and B.D.K. (Jakob Hammermeier & Pinkie Sanchez) in a four-corners elimination tag match. This was a typical Chikara opening tag match with a ton of chaotic action to get the crowd excited. There wasn't an elimination for quite some time, but it led to a funny spot where all of the participants were in a headlock/sleeper/anklelock/nerve pinch chain until Jervis wiggled out and tickled Flex Rumblecrunch, leading to everyone (including his partner and the referee) stopping and laughing at how ticklish he was. Worker Ant ended up getting worked over for the majority of the match by the Wrecking Crew and B.D.K. until he made a hot tag to Kimberlee and she cleaned house. Eventually, Fire Ant pinned Flex Rumblecrunch to eliminate the Wrecking Crew, Jervis rolled up Hammermeier to eliminate BDK, and Kimberlee rolled up Fire Ant for the win. This was a good opener with a lot of comedy and rapid-fire wrestling to kick off the show.

(2) Hallowicked beat Argus by pinfall. Gavin Loudspeaker announced before the match that it was the Magic Move match of the evening, and the move selected was a knee drop. If either competitor hit the knee drop, everyone in attendance would receive a prize. Argus was announced as coming from the Chikara Wrestle Factory (their training school) and it was pretty obvious he was a new wrestler. Hallowicked did his best to help Argus out, but there were a lot of botched spots. Argus was able to get a massive pop when, after being teased the whole match, he hit the knee drop on Hallowicked. Hallowicked then got up, dropkicked him, and won. Everyone in attendance got Chikara posters from "in the very back of the vault." They were basically over-sized flyers for old events.

(3) Chikara Grand champion Icarus & Mr. Touchdown beat Silver Ant & Frightmare via pinfall when Icarus pinned Silver Ant. There were a lot of stretches and restholds in this match, which I thought was weird from a handful of Chikara veterans. Nonetheless, the match picked up near the end with good back and forth action. This was a solid, entertaining match that Chikara effortlessly delivers, but there was nothing spectacular about it until the end. Icarus hit a Swinging Frankensteiner on Silver Ant and then they executed a beautiful chain of six or seven rolling nearfalls before Icarus rolled up Silver Ant for the win.

(4) "The Kentucky Gentleman" Chuck Taylor beat "The Carolina Caveman" Trevor Lee via pinfall. The crowd was split pretty evenly rooting for the local hero, Trevor Lee, and the indy darling, Chuck Taylor. Lee and Taylor came at each other hard and put on a really great match before Chuck Taylor won with an Awful Waffle after a couple of insane counters that showed off Lee's athleticism. Taylor has a great way of being totally serious when wrestling but also being hilarious. Move for move, this was the match of the night and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

[Intermission]

(5) The United Nations (Juan Francisco de Coronado & Mr. Azerbaijan & Proletariat Boar of Moldova & Prakash Sabar) beat The Arcade Horde (Oleg the Usurper & Ultramantis Black & Obariyon & Kodama) via pinfall in a four-on-four tag match in The Challenge of the Immortals Series. Juan Francisco de Coronado pinned Oleg the Usurper for the win. This was the first match after intermission and really worked to build the energy in the room. Tons of frantic action typical of a Chikara trios style match that got the crowd back into the show. The crowd was really hot for Oleg to tag in during the match, but he didn't really get a chance until near the end. Just when Oleg was about to finish off Juan Francisco, Sidney Bakabella showed up waving a contract around. Coronado was able to capitalize on the distraction and hit a German suplex for the pin.

(6) Dasher Hatfield beat "Killer" Kevin Condron via pinfall. To open the match, Dasher kept pushing Condron into three of the corners and the ref had to break it up each time. As Dasher was pulling away, Condron accused him of pulling his hair, raking his eyes, and hitting with a closed fist, which he was not doing. Dasher told the ref he would never hit with a closed fist, but would always use an open fist, and demonstrated by slapping the taste out of Condron's mouth. Later on, Condron walked through the crowd to get a chair, and while the ref was getting it out of the ring, Condron went to the back and got a wrench that he hit Dasher with. After he hit Dasher, he legitimately threw up on the ring apron, but he kept wrestling. After a bit of back and forth, Condron pushed Dasher into the ref, and while the ref was out of it, Condron threw the wrench into Dasher's hands, and hit the mat Eddie Guerrero style. The ref didn't buy it, and when Condron popped up to argue with him, Dasher rolled Condron up for the win.

(7) Chikara Campeones de Parejas (Tag Team Champions) The Devastation Corporation (Max Smashmaster & Blaster McMassive w/Sidney Bakabella) beat The Osirian Portal (Amasis & Ophidian) in a two-out-of-three-falls match to retain the Tag Titles...

-Fall #1: The first fall occurred when Amasis was fighting off a powerbomb from McMassive and Ophididan hopped in the ring and rolled up McMassive for the pin. After this, Bakabella told the champs to leave. Senior Referee Bryce Remsburg told Bakabella that if the Devastation Corporation got counted out, they would lose the second fall and the titles. Eventually, they returned to the ring.

-Fall #2: The second fall came after a lot of Chikara tag chaos when McMassive hit a monster clothesline on Ophidian for a pinfall.

-Fall #3: The third fall came after a lot of great action and nearfalls. McMassive kicked out of a 450 splash from Amasis. Smashmaster stacked up the Osirian Portal in a fireman's carry and dropped them both to the mat, but Ophidian kicked out. Smashmaster then hit a huge Swanton bomb on Amasis, who kicked out. The Osirian Portal hit a Pyramid Plex on McMassive, Ophidian spit mist into Bakabella's face, and then hit the Sacrament on McMassive, who kicked out. After a reset, McMassive powerbombed Amasis them the Devastation Corporation hit the Master Blaster on Amasis for the pin and the win.

Gavin Loudspeaker announced a return date to Gibsonville of September 26.

Once again, Chikara delivered an exciting, often hilarious, always entertaining night of wrestling. The crowd was hot throughout and the wrestlers were super-personable, as always. Anybody still on the fence about giving Chikara a try, I would strongly urge you check them out the next time they're in your area. You won't be disappointed!
