WWE Live show results
February 8, 2015
Canton, Ohio
Report by David Jeffers, PWTorch reader

I attended the WWE Live event in Canton Sunday night. It's been several years since I was at a house show and I'd forgotten how much fun they could be. The Civic Center was pretty crowded, probably about 95 percent full. There were LOTS of kids in attendance, so all the faces and heels basically got their desired reactions. Great crowd, and everyone was pretty over. JoJo was the ring announcer. She opened by promoting an NXT event in Cleveland, about an hour-and-a-half north of here. Then she asked us to vote (on Twitter or through text) whether we wanted to see a one-on-one Divas match or a Divas tag team match. She then introduced the first match.

(1) Jack Swagger beat Titus O'Neil via submission. Swagger was very over and the crowd was very into the "We the People" bit. Good heat for Titus, too. It was a pretty good match, both worked the crowd throughout. At one point while Swagger was down, O'Neil made a "jerk off" motion with his hand and sarcastically said "We the People!" O'Neil ended up submitting to the anklelock.

(2) Los Matadores & El Torito beat Heath Slater & Curtis Axel & Hornswoggle in a six-man tag match. Hornswoggle threw his shirt at Torito and Torito threw it back. The ref tried to calm everyone down and Hornswoggle threw it at him. There were several fun comedy spots, the best of which was one of the Matadores "hulking up" after being slapped by Hornswoggle. Torito pinned Hornswoggle.

(3) R-Truth beat Fandango (w/Rosa Mendes). Truth spent some time showboating and working the crowd. Fandango tried to quiet it down. Short match with R-Truth pinning Fandango.

A video promoting "Connor's Cure" showed on the screen. The crowd loved it.

Highlight Reel - Chris Jericho came out to a big pop. He said in his 15 years in the WWE he'd never been to Canton, and he didn't know what the hell he was waiting for. He trash-talked The Authority. He said Triple H was the biggest jackass he'd ever met and his name stands for "Huge Horrible Honker." He said Stephanie was just what he'd always called her, but he can't say that anymore because we're PG. Jericho talked about running WWE better than The Authority. Out came Luke Harper to knock Jericho's mic down. Jericho knocked him out of the ring and asked the crowd if they wanted to see Jericho vs. Harper. They did, and Jericho called for a bell.

(4) Chris Jericho beat Luke Harper. Very good match, and Jericho pinned Harper with a Codebreaker. Then he worked the crowd for lots of cheers.

(5) Dean Ambrose beat Bray Wyatt. Wyatt came out to a decent pop, but then Ambrose came out and dwarfed it. Best match of the night for me. Very engaging with lots of back-and-forth. Ambrose pinned Wyatt after Dirty Deeds.

[Intermission]

(6) Natalya & Paige beat Alicia Fox & Sasha Banks via submission. A Divas tag team match won the fan vote from the beginning of the show, a claimed 52-48 percent. Banks and Fox came out first. Paige and Natalya came out separately, both to great crowd reactions. Standard formulaic tag match. Paige and Fox worked most of the match until it was time for a hot tag to Natalya. Sasha Banks submitted to the Sharpshooter.

(7) WWE tag champions The Usos beat The Miz & Damien Sandow to retain the WWE Tag Titles. Typical split reaction for Miz and Mizdow. Miz heeled it up in the ring for a bit and the Usos came out. They did some pretty good mic work (it's a shame they don't get to show it on TV) getting the crowd to boo Miz, cheer Mizdow, and even cheer the referee. Miz sent Mizdow to a chair in the corner and said if he's lucky "I MIGHT tag you in." Lots of fun spots, including Mizdow tagging himself in. Miz banished Mizdow and his chair to the floor then ate a double super kick for the pin.

(8) U.S. champion Rusev (w/Lana) beat Erick Rowan to retain the U.S. Title. Rusev got a great heel reaction. There were very loud "USA" chants and I couldn't even hear Lana speaking. Erick Rowan came out next. Solid match with lots of power moves. Rusev hit a brutal kick to Rowan's head, then Rowan passed out in The Accolade for the only heel victory of the night. Rusev left, then the ref gave Rowan his mask back. Rowan walked to the back while his music played.

Next was Roman Reigns vs. Big Show in the main event. Lots of cheers from the kids for Reigns. There were some scattered boos, but they were barely audible over the cheers. Show said it was his birthday (my friends and I tried to start a "Happy Birthday" chant, but to no avail). He said didn't want to spend his birthday in a town like this. He tried to leave, but Reigns brought him back.

(9) Roman Reigns beat Big Show in a Canton Street Fight. Good Street Fight with lots of spots. There were even some believable nearfalls for both guys. Reigns hit an impressive jumping DDT. He was going to powerbomb Show from the top turnbuckle through a table, but the table somehow broke before Reigns was even in position. Reigns speared Show through a table in the corner for the pin to send the crowd home happy.

Biggest Pops (in order):

(1) Dean Ambrose
(2) Chris Jericho
(3) Roman Reigns

Biggest heat (in order)

(1) Rusev/Miz
(2) Big Show
(3) Titus O'Neil
