April 4, 2014
New Orleans, La.
Report by Sean Radican, PWTorch columnist
The event aired Friday afternoon on WWNLive.com Internet PPV. The on-demand version will be available later.
(1) Mike Dell beat Steve Anthony to retain the Wildcat Hvt. Title. Flat opening match. Dell ducked a 450 and hit a top rope elbow for the win to retain his title.
(2) The Bravado Brothers vs. Joey Ryan & Candice LeRae with Maxwell Chicago as special referee. Bravados won with the Gentleman's Agreement on LeRae. Maxwell and Ryan cleared the ring after the match. Maxwell then reversed his decision after the match. I didn't like this very much.
(3) FIP champion Trent Baretta beat Lince Dorado to retain the FIP Title. The match was slow to start, but picked up down the stretch. Trent got the win with the Dudebuster. (**1/2)
(4) Shine tag champions Mia Yim & Leva Bates beat Neveah & Sassy Stephie to retain the Shine Tag Titles. Yim & Bates retained in a good tag match that could have been given a little more time. Yim pinned Stephie with a springboard moonsault. (**3/4)
(5) Shine champion Ivelisse beat Jazz to retain the Shine Title. Ivelisse won with a spinning kick. The finish seemed to come out of nowhere, but there was some solid technical wrestling in this match. (**3/4)
(6) CZW champion Drew Gulak (w/Chuck Taylor) beat Timothy Thatcher (w/Biff Busick) in a British Rounds match. Gulak got the win 2-1 with an anklelock submission in the Sixth Round. Man, is Thatcher awesome. That was a technical showcase. Well-deserved ovation from this lukewarm crowd. (****)
Next was the main event of Chris Hero vs. A.R. Fox. But, Tony Nese interrupted before the match could start. He said he feels disrespected and he wants to be put in the match. The fans chanted, "No," but Hero said Nese can be in the match.
(7) EVOLVE champion Chris Hero beat A.R. Fox and Anthony Nese in a 20-minute sprint match to retain the Evolve Title. The rules were whoever had the most falls in 20 minutes won. Hero had three, Nese two, and Fox one. For the finish, Hero hit a death blow on Nese for a pin right before the time limit expired. That was too much for me, especially following Gulak-Thatcher. (*1/2)
Gulak vs. Thatcher is worth going out of your way to see. A few other solid bouts on "Wrestling Odyssey," but a flat show, overall.
