I'd say there were about 1,000 people at the show here in Winston-Salem Friday night. So Cal Val handled the announcing duties.
(1) Mr. Anderson pinned Crimson. Anderson came out and tried to do his usual routine, but there was no mic. So, a staffer brought a chair into the ring, stood on it, and handed Anderson a mic. Anderson dominated early, but Crimson took a rest outside the ring. Anderson chased Crimson around, but Crimson gained the advantage after attacking Anderson when he got back in the ring. It was back and forth after that. Anderson hit the Green Bay Plunge, but Crimson kicked out. Crimson blocked the Mic Check once, but not a second time, and Anderson won. Afterwards, Anderson traded barbs with some vocal Crimson fans and had a kid at ringside announce him as the winner.
(2) Mickie James pinned Gail Kim. Gail came out wearing her new shirt. She teased throwing it to the crowd, but didn't. Mickie came out to a big pop. She threw Gail's shirt into the crowd and Gail tried unsuccessfully to get it back. Gail stalled early, then worked on Mickie's knee. Mickie made a comeback and went for a Mick-DT, but Gail blocked it into a roll-up. The ref noticed she was grabbing the tights and wouldn't complete the three count, though. Gail went for Eat Defeat, but Mickie blocked it. Mickie then hit the DDT for the win. Gail appeared to be suffering from a leg injury after the match and had to be carried to the back, but I was told after the show that she was okay.
(3) Magnus pinned Samoa Joe. They traded holds at first. Lots of "Joe's going to kill you" chants. Joe had the better of it for a while, but Magnus gained an advantage on the outside. Joe fought back and teased the Muscle Buster a couple times, but Magnus avoided it. Magnus hit an elbow off the top rope. Joe applied the rear naked choke, but Magnus ran them both into the referee. Joe and the ref bumped heads, and Magnus covered Joe for the pin. Everyone was shocked Magnus got the win. Match of the night.
(4) Knockouts tag champions Eric Young & ODB defeated Robbie E. & Robbie T. The Robbies wanted to dance and fist pump. ODB and EY weren't impressed, and danced to Baby Got Back while desecrating the Robbies's sweaters. The Robbies attacked Young from behind. Since this is TNA, the bell rang with the unfair start. Robbie E. didn't have much luck, but some standard heel tactics turned the tables and Robbie T. took control. EY played babyface in peril. At some point, there was a false comeback and EY removed his shorts to reveal a Soviet flag speedo. EY eventually got the hot tag and ODB came in and spit liquid from her flask in Robbie T.'s face. She then handed out about a dozen low blows to both Robbies, and pinned Robbie E. Afterwards, she and EY resumed dancing to Baby Got Back.
[Intermission with the usual Earl Hebner spiel.]
(5) Rob Van Dam pinned Gunner (w/Kid Kash). Kash interfered a lot early on, although some of it backfired. Eventually, the referee ejected Kash from ringside. RVD hit a split-legged moonsault, but Gunner kicked out. Gunner hit a massive DDT. There was a ref bump, so Kash snuck back down. He pushed RVD off the top rope and then hit a moonsault on him. Gunner crawled over for the cover, but RVD kicked out at two. RVD eventually disposed of Kash and hit the Five Star Frog Splash for the win.
Before the main event, So Cal Val introduced Bobby Roode and James Storm. She had two envelopes that per Hulk Hogan contained each of their partners. Storm opened his first and his partner was Hardy, who came out to the biggest pop of the night in his home state. Roode opened his envelope and got Aries as his partner. Aries got on the mic and said he wasn't happy about teaming with Roode, but they needed to have each other's backs for the match.
(6) Jeff Hardy & James Storm defeated TNA World Hvt. champion Austin Aries & Bobby Roode in the main event. Lots and lots of stalling from Roode and Aries as they traded blind tags and hard tags and argued amongst themselves. I tried to start a "hug it out" chant to no avail. Eventually, Roode shoved Hardy into Aries on the apron, which pissed off Aries. Aries dropkicked Hardy off the top rope. Roode brought the belt in, but Aries grabbed it before he could use it. They tussled over the belt, and Roode ended up getting knocked in the face with it, knocking him backwards into the Last Call and then the Twist of Fate for the pin.
Afterwards, Aries got on the mic and said he'd see Hardy at Bound For Glory, but this was his night in his hometown and he'd leave him to enjoy it. Hardy then posed for pictures with fans in the ring after receiving an ice pack for his lower back.
Overall, a very enjoyable show. All the matches were good.
Biggest Pops:
- Jeff Hardy
- James Storm
- Mickie James
- Austin Aries
