WWE Smackdown house show results
June 23, 2012
Springfield, Ill.
Report by Nick Shields, PWTorch reader
Pretty good crowd on-hand. Way more people than last year and way more loud. The new house show set is sweet, and makes it seem like you're actually at a televised show.
(1) Sin Cara beat Hunico.
(2) The Usos beat Prime Time Playas (Titus O'Neil & Darren Young).
(3) Damien Sandow beat Yoshi Tatsu.
(4) Alicia Fox beat Natayla with Kaitlyn as special referee.
(5) World Hvt. champion Sheamus beat Alberto Del Rio in a Street Fight to retain the World Heavyweight Title. Really good match. The finish came when Ricardo was distracting Sheamus and as Del Rio went to hit Sheamus with a chair, he hit Ricardo instead. Sheamus then hit the Brogue Kick for the win.
[Intermission. Right before the intermission, a random Diva threw collectors cups to the ringside people.]
Heath Slater came out and cut a promo on how Cyndi Lauper, Roddy Piper, and "That Other Chick" made him look dumb on Raw. He started to sing his single, but Ryback's music hit.
(6) Ryback beat Heath Slater. Slater got a surprisingly good amount of offense in, but ultimately lost.
(7) IC champion Christian beat Cody Rhodes to retain the Intercontinental Title. Good match, and Christian hit the Spear for the win.
(8) WWE champion C.M. Punk beat Kane and Daniel Bryan in a Triple Threat match to retain the WWE Title. The roof exploded when Punk came out. There was a good pop for Bryan, as the "Yes!" chants were very vocal. Kane surprisingly got a good pop. Near the end, A.J.'s music hit and she ran around the ring as Kane was stared at her. She then went to the back, Bryan kicked Kane out of the ring, and Punk hit Bryan with the GTS for the win. Very good match.
Overall, pretty good show as all the title matches were really good and the mid-card wasn't all that, but still a very good show. Raw and Smackdown come here every summer and the fans always show up. This was just a tune-up for me before going to Raw 1,000, which should be awesome.
