WWE Supershow house show results
September 16, 2011
Huntington, W. Va.
Report by MUIrish, PWTorch reader
This was supposed to be a Smackdown house show in June at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena, but it got canceled, so this make up house show turned into a Supershow. I had second row seats with a friend. The arena was about three-fourths-full, which wasn't bad at all. A lot of kids in the audience with red Cena t-shirts. A lot of Punk and Miz t-shirts, too.
The show started off with Eve coming down to the ring as the ring announcer.
(1) WWE tag champions Air Boom (Evan Bourne & Kofi Kingston) beat Awesome Truth (The Miz & R-Truth) to retain the WWE Tag Titles. Really solid opener and a great preview for Sunday. Truth cut the first heel promo of the night to a lot of heat, followed by Miz. They used each other's catchphrases again. The mMatch ended with Air Bourne for the win.
(2) U.S. champion Dolph Ziggler beat Alex Riley to retain the U.S. Title. Ziggler came out to some heat; Riley got a really good reaction from the crowd. It looks like he could win the title Sunday on PPV. Riley is a huge man in-person. Another really solid match. IT was a little slower than the first match, though. Ziggler kicked out of Riley's two finishers during the match.
(3) Sin Cara beat Heath Slater. Slater came out to a mixed response due to him being from West Virginia. Cara got the first huge applause of the night. This looked like it was the original Cara. He did he whole pre-match trampoline routine and this was actually a very fun match. Cara won with a new finisher that was something like a swanton bomb. Slater stayed in ring after match and waved to the crowd while getting good cheers.
(4) Mason Ryan beat Primo. Very short match with Ryan dominating. Ryan is very large and has grown his hair out.
(5) Intercontinental champion Cody Rhodes beat Ted DiBiase to retain the IC Title. Rhodes came out with one of his assistants passing out paper bags to the audience. My friend next to me got a paper bag. Pretty good match. DiBiase is good in the ring, but doesn't play to the crowd very well.
(6) WWE champion Alberto Del Rio beat C.M. Punk to retain the WWE Title. Ricardo came out to announce Del Rio, which drew a lot of heat. Del Rio came out to many boos. He stole a sign from out of the crowd that said "Alberto Bean Burrito," which was pretty funny. Punk came out to a huge reaction. "C.M. Punk" chants started before the match. This was a very good match - Punk was great and Rio plays his part well. Ricardo interfered at end of match, causing Del Rio to get the cheap win. After the match, Punk got more cheers in the ring and as he walked to the back.
[Intermission. Eve passed out some t shirts and told everyone to order the PPV on Sunday. She also did the normal merchandise selling bit.]
(7) Divas champion Kelly Kelly beat Beth Phoenix to retain the Divas Title. Beth came out first to mixed reaction and she started to get into it with Eve as the announcer. Kelly's music hit to one of the biggest reactions of the night. Kelly is gorgeous in-person, even more so than on television. This was actually a long Divas match and very exciting, too. This is what the Divas could do with more ring time. Kelly won with a roll-up and celebrated outside the ring with Eve.
(8) Sheamus & Daniel Bryan beat Mark Henry & Christian. Really entertaining tag match. Maybe not as good as the first one, but still very good. Sheamus came to ring wearing a Marshall University football jersey, which is in Huntington. Sheamus got a great reaction to that. He and Christian played to the crowd before the match. Christian held up his t-shirt to the crowd to get boos, then Sheamus held up the Marshall jersey to get cheers. It was pretty funny. Henry is so much bigger live than on TV. His leg muscles are huge. The match ended with a Brogue Kick on Christian.
(9) John Cena beat WWE champion Alberto Del Rio via DQ; Del Rio retained the WWE Title. Cena came out to obviously the best reaction of the night. The kids went nuts for him. Del Rio came out and stole another kid's sign that was right next to us that said "Cena for President." He kept holding the sign out to the kid and then pulling it back while the kid reached for it. This was the funniest thing of the night. He did that at least 15 times while he and Ricardo were cracking up. The kid started crying and his dad even got mad. This ended with Del Rio ripping the sign up and giving it back to the kid. While the kid was crying, Cena came over and gave him his t-shirt, which was pretty cool. There were some very small "let's go Cena, Cena sucks" chants. The match ended when Ricardo brought a chair to the ring and jumped Cena, leading to a DQ. Punk then came down to the ring to massive cheers to help Cena. Punk delivered the GTS to Ricardo while Cena gave Del Rio the Attitude Adjustment.
After the match, Cena got a mic and said he couldn't believe his eyes that Punk would come out to help him. Cena then led the crowd in a "C.M. Punk" chant. Cena said he has a tradition every time he comes to West Virginia at the end he has to sing "Country Roads." My buddy yelled, "Cheap Pop," which made Punk laugh. Cena and Punk then together both sang "Country Roads" with the crowd which was very cool. Cena then left and Punk walked around the ring after signing autographs for the fans.

(2) Punk
(3) Sin Cara
(4) Sheamus
(5) Kelly Kelly
Biggest Heat:

(2) Del Rio
(3) Mark Henry
