WWE Raw house show results
August 27, 2011
Memphis, Tenn.
Report by Jon Brewer, PWTorch reader

Saturday night, the Raw World Tour came to the FedEx Forum, which was pretty full, but not a sell-out. There were a lot of empty cheap seats in the arena.

(1) WWE tag champions Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne beat David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty to retain the WWE Tag Titles. This match was better than anything these guys do on TV, especially in regards to Otungicutty. Good action that got the crowd into the show. Kofi and Evan got the win after Evan hit Air Bourne.

(2) Mason Ryan beat Santino Marella. Santino did some comedy spots at the beginning, which were pretty funny. Ryan looks a little smoother in the ring than his first run. Basic squash.

WWE tried a “dance-off” for a chance to meet a Superstar backstage, but the Bellas interrupted and trash-talked the crowd a bit. Eve and Kelly Kelly ran down, which led to...

(3) Divas champion Kelly Kelly & Eve beat the Bella Twins. Longer-than-TV Divas match. Good action.

Zack Ryder was introduced for a match, but on his way up the aisle, Jack Swagger attacked him and laid him out with two splashes in the ring. Swagger grabbed the mic and talked smack about Memphis, which of course brought out...

(4) Jerry Lawler beat Jack Swaggar. Swagger beat up on Lawler for a while until Lawler made his comeback and got the pin after the fist drop. Lawler got the biggest pop of the night up to that point. Lawler is loved in Memphis!

(5) C.M. Punk beat R-Truth. Truth and Punk exchanged a little mic work at the beginning. Punk won with the GTS after Truth missed an axe kick.

[Intermission]

(6) U.S. champion Dolph Ziggler beat Alex Riley to retain the U.S. Title. No Vickie with Dolph. He tore into the crowd hard before the match. Very competitive match, and Ziggler won with the Zig-Zag.

(7) John Morrison beat Drew McIntyre. Little to no crowd reaction for McIntyre. Morrison won with the Starship Pain.

(8) John Cena beat The Miz. Miz did some great mic work before this match. He had the crowd eating out of his hand by the end of it, booing on cue. The roof came off the Forum when Cena came out, with a 90 percent positive response. Biggest pop of the night. Basic main event-style match with a couple of teased finishes until Cena hit the AA for the win.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: At some point, they did the actual dance-off, with three adults and one kid. Of course, the kid won. ... WWE announced they would be back in Memphis for Raw TV live on January 2, 2012. ... Overall, a good show. No “bad” matches with Ryan-Marella being the only one that wasn’t competitive. The action was far better than what usually makes it onto a Raw broadcast.

Some notable car pairings as I watched the wrestlers leave the parking garage:

-- Kofi Kingston with C.M. Punk
-- Otunga with McGillicutty
-- Morrison with McIntyre
-- Swagger with R-Truth
-- Bellas, Kelly Kelly, and Eve all in the same car
-- John Cena left in the largest Prevost bus I have ever seen. He was riding in the “shotgun” jumpseat up front as they left.
