WWE Raw house show results
July 1, 2011
Sydney, Australia
Report by Mason Ryan, PWTorch reader
The arena was almost sold out and packed. The show opened at 7:30 p.m. with Justin Roberts announcing that C.M. Punk is currently suspended. However, Vince McMahon and he have reached an understanding that Punk would only work live events and not televised shows, which led to C.M. Punk coming out to open the show.
Punk came out to a mixed reaction as he made his way out to the ring. He then began sledging Australia, Australians, and the McMahons, resulting in his mic being cut off and bringing out Rey Mysterio.
(1) Rey Mysterio beat C.M. Punk. The end result was Mysterio pinned Punk after a 619 and splash. Good way to open the show with back-and-forth action.
Next up, Kelly Kelly came out to defend the Divas Title against Brie Bella accompanied by Nikki Bella. The Bellas attempted to get the upper hand before the match, which brought out Beth Phoenix to even the odds. Suddenly, the Raw GM chime went off and Justin Roberts announced that he received an email from the anonymous GM via his iPhone and that it would be a tag match.
(2) Divas champion Kelly Kelly & Beth Phoenix beat the Bella Twins (Brie & Nikki Bella). Kelly scored the pin.
(3) Zack Ryder beat Primo. Ryder scored a pin. Not much.
The show was then set back as the crew experienced technical difficulties with microphones.
(4) Evan Bourne beat Jack Swagger. Good match with back-and-forth action. Bourne scored the pinfall via Air Bourne.
Next, U.S. champion Dolph Ziggler came out and slipped on his way to the ring. He wasn't happy. He cut a strong heel promo running down Australia as a country compared to the States, then ran down Kingston.
(5) U.S. champion Dolph Ziggler beat Kofi Kingston to retain the U.S. Title. Ziggler scored a pinfall by holding Kingston's trunks for the win.
Leading to intermission, Kelly Kelly and Justin Roberts hosted a dance contest. There were four participants from the audience and the winner got the meet his or her favorite WWE Raw Superstar backstage. A kid won and, of course, chose Cena.
(6) WWE tag champions New Nexus (Michael McGillicutty & David Otunga) beat Santino & Kozlov to retain the Tag Titles.
The Miz came out and cut an excellent promo running down Alex Riley. Miz generated a ton of heat and then attempted to do his catchphrase, but was unsuccessful on several occasions. Alex Riley then ran out and attacked Miz.
Suddenly, the Raw GM chime went off again and Justin Roberts announced he has received another email from the anonymous Raw GM via his iPhone. He made Miz vs. A-Ry a Sydney Street Fight.
(7) Alex Riley beat The Miz in a Sydney Street Fight. Excellent match with microphones, kendo sticks, and steel chairs. Miz showed wounds from the kendo stick to his back that would have stung. A-Ry then hit Miz face-first with a drop toehold on a steel chair for the pinfall victory.
Next was the main event between Cena and R-Truth. Truth ran down all the little Jimmys in the crowd before the match.
(8) WWE champion John Cena beat R-Truth to retain the WWE Title. Cena went for the Attitude Adjustment and knocked out ref Mike Chioda, which brought out Punk to nail the GTS. Punk placed Truth over Cena, woke up the ref, and Cena kicked out. Punk couldn't believe it and attempted to distract Chioda while R-Truth grabbed the title belt and attempted to nail Cena, who ducked the shot and Truth continued his momentum to nail Punk. Cena then hit the AA on Truth for the win.
