WWE Smackdown house show results
May 28, 2011
Madison, Wis.
Report by Jake Groskreutz, PWTorch reader
The crowd was between 2,500-3,000. In the opening segment, "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase came out as the “guest host” talking about how it’s good to be here in Madison. He also announced that, tonight, four lucky fans would be part of the “Million Dollar Challenge.” And, with the power of being guest host, he announced there will be a battle royal for a shot at the IC Title.
(1) Daniel Bryan won a Smackdown battle royal. Bryan eliminated Henry to win. The final three included Ezekiel Jackson, who was eliminated by Henry. The full list of involved participants included: the Usos, Trent Barreta, Corre's Slater & Gabriel, Ted DiBiase, Jr., Yoshi Tatsu, Daniel Bryan, Great Khali, Cody Rhodes, Ezekiel Jackson, Jinder Mahal, Mark Henry, and Chavo Guerrero.
(2) Natalya & A.J. beat Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes in a Divas tag match. Back-and-forth match with Natalya slapping the Sharpshooter on Alicia Fox for the victory.
Cody Rhodes came out and cut an amazing promo about how he will be in the main event of WrestleMania next year. Rhodes went on to talk about how he is not afraid of people mocking him about his mask and they are just as ugly on the outside as they are on the inside. He then passed out brown grocery bags with a face cut out, saying these people need to wear them for being ugly on the outside and inside.
(3) Yoshi Tatsu beat Cody Rhodes. Rhodes dominated most of the match until Daniel Bryan came out to ringside to distract him, setting up Yoshi for a high-kick to the head for the 1-2-3.
Million Dollar Man came out to do the “Million Dollar Challenge,” which ended up being a dancing contest between four people. Out of the group, the little kid won and was able to go backstage to meet the WWE Superstars.
[Intermission]
(4) Jinder Mahal (w/Great Khali) beat Trent Barreta. Jinder looked pretty decent playing the heel and looked comfortable in the ring. He won when Trent was distracted and Khali hit him with a chop for Jinder to get the 1-2-3.
(5) Daniel Bryan beat Intercontinental champion Wade Barrett via DQ; Barrett retained the IC Title. Great match that had the crowd going back and forth until Cody Rhodes came out to beat on Daniel Bryan while he had Barrett in an armbar. After Cody beat up Bryan, the other two Corre members added more punishment, then Ezekiel Jackson ran out to make the save. Bryan and Jackson emptied the ring and then went around high-fiving fans.
Next was the main event three-way match for the World Title. Christian came out first and cut a promo about how he has no animosity towards Randy Orton and he would’ve done the same thing in gaining the belt. He said he will get the belt and Madison and the rest of the WWE Peeps out there will be happy. Sheamus came out second; Randy Orton came out third to mix reaction.
(6) World Hvt. champion Randy Orton beat Christian and Sheamus in a three-way match to retain the World Hvt. Title. One of the better three-ways and included all three men having equal time dominating the match and trying to hit finishers. Orton won by hitting the RKO on Sheamus.
Overall, for being a make-up event from the Super Bowl show that was supposed to be a Raw show, it was good. The only issues I had were the lack of merchandise. They had nothing for most of the wrestlers on the show (Christian, Ted DiBiase, Daniel Bryan, etc.). It was mostly John Cena stuff. And, the other issue was that I wanted to win a free beer from my brother by betting Sin Cara would screw up his entrance or finisher, but he wasn’t on the show.
