WWE Smackdown house show results
April 18, 2011
Liverpool, England
Report by Ed Williams of Chester, U.K., PWTorch reader

This was my first-ever WWE live event, so I was pretty hyped for it. Along with my family, we arrived at the arena just after 6:00 and the event started at 7:30. Huge pyro started the show to massive cheers. The announcer was Tony Chimel.

(1) Kane won an over-the-top battle royal to earn an Intercontinental Title shot later in the show. Cody Rhodes left the ring just before the match started. This was a rather good match. Also featured with Kane were Brodus Clay, Trent Barreta, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, Ezekiel Jackson, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, Chavo Guerrero, and Chris Masters.

(2) Brodus Clay beat Trent Barreta in a squash match.

(3) Kelly Kelly & Beth Phoenix beat Layla & Kaitlyn. A funny match, as neither Layla nor Kaitlyn wanted to face Beth. Beth pinned Layla after the Glamslam.

(4) Drew McIntyre beat Chavo Guerrero. A really good match with quite a lot of heat for Drew after he got on the mic saying, "I'm British and you're cheering the Mexican." Drew won with the Future Shock DDT.

(5) Big Show beat WWE tag champions Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater in a handicap match. Again, quite a funny match with both Heath and Justin getting Big Show's patented slap across the chest in the corner. Some pretty good offense by all three before Show finished off Heath with the Knockout Punch.

(6) Intercontinental champion Wade Barrett beat Kane to retain the Intercontinental Title. Good match with both guys showing good offense. Interference by Ezekiel Jackson allowed Wade to hit his Wasteland finisher. A lot of heat for The Corre members. Huge reaction for Kane.

(7) Rey Mysterio beat Cody Rhodes via submission in a WrestleMania re-match. Huge pop for Rey - almost the biggest of the night - and plenty of heat on Cody. A good, fast-paced match with both guys hitting some signature offense. Rey finished off Cody with a 619 into a seated senton to Cody's back, setting up the Camel Cluch. The crowd went mad and Rey took ages to leave the arena.

Edge then came out to a huge reaction and the whole place shook. He started his farewell speech and Alberto Del Rio interrupted him. Del Rio challenged Edge to a match after some "One more match" chants. Edge declined, but said Teddy Long has allowed him to be the acting GM while on the tour and set up our main event.

(8) Christian beat Alberto Del Rio in a Liverpool Street Fight. Not much of a street fight, but Christian brought out a kendo stick and get in a couple of shots to Del Rio, but Brodus Clay interfered and took out Christian with the kendo stick. Brodus then picked up Christian and Alberto went to hit Christian, but he ducked, so Brodus took the shot. Edge then ran in to distract Del Rio, who was busy getting chairs into the ring. This allowed Christian to hit the Killswitch. Edge then got on the mic and started chanting "spear, spear, spear." The crowd joined in as Christian sat in the corner in typical Edge fashion before hitting Del Rio with a huge spear for the pinfall.

After that, E+C remained in the ring to huge pops as they did a five-second pose (for the benefit of those with flash photography). All of the faces joined them in the ring for a great farewell. Edge then did a lap around the ringside area, signing posters and shaking hands. I was about a foot away from him and shook his hand. The last half-hour was my favorite part of the night. Overall, the show inspired me to try to get tickets for the next televised Raw from the U.K. in November.
