WWE Smackdown house show results
April 17, 2011
Newcastle, England
Report by Sean Mulligan, PWTorch reader

(1) Kofi Kingston won a Battle Royal to face Wade Barrett later in the show. Standard battle royal with a few good spots. It came down to Kofi vs. Swagger. It was unbelievable how over Kofi was with the crowd.

(2) Brodus Clay beat Trent Barreta in a quick match. Barreta got some of his signature moves in, but it was no more than a squash for Brodus.

(3) Kelly Kelly & Beth Phoenix beat Layla & Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn has been filling in for McCool on the tour. Good match. Definitely one of the better WWE Divas matches I have seen live with the heels beating down Kelly before Beth’s comeback and Glam Slam to Layla.

(4) Chavo Guerrero beat Drew McIntyre after the Frog Splash. Decent enough match but it did drag at times.

(5) Kane & Big Show defeated The Corre (Ezekiel Jackson & WWE tag champions Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel) in a handicap match. The match started off as tag match for Slater and Gabriel's tag titles, but Jackson interfered and Show changed the match to a three-on-two. Kane and Show delivered a double chokeslam to Ezekiel for the win.

[Intermission. Tony Chimel took us to an interval by throwing out t-shirts and attempting to sell signed Big Show pictures.]

(6) Intercontinental champion Wade Barrett beat Kofi Kingston with Wasteland to retain the IC Title. The majority of the crowd were young kids and strongly behind Kofi in what was an average match.

(7) Rey Mysterio beat Cody Rhodes via submission to the Camel Clutch. Rey hit the 619 and delivered a seated drop to Cody’s back before going for the submission.

Edge came out for his farewell promo before he was interrupted by Del Rio. Edge announced he was the acting GM and made the main event between Del Rio and Christian a "Newcastle Street Fight." This was Christian's first appearance on the tour.

(8) Christian pinned Alberto Del Rio after hitting the spear. At the end of the match, Edge came out and posed with Christian for the benefit of those with flash photography, although about 80 percent of the crowd didn’t have a clue what they were doing. Edge gave his farewell promo and the rest of the roster came out to celebrate with him.

Overall a decent house show with the highlight definitely being Edge's involvement to close the show.
