WWE Raw house show report
April 13, 2011
Glasgow, Scotland
Report by Scott Robertson, PWTorch reader
To start off, I will be quite critical, but I did enjoy the show overall. It was an improved crowd from last time but, again, more kids (who like to stand up). I was also disappointed to hear this was the same line-up as the Belfast show.
I'll repeat what I said in my last report (Smackdown - November 2010) that the first thing you realize as soon as you walk in the entrance are the high prices. £25 for a t-shirt, £15 for a Cena hat, £15 for a sweatband set, and an astonishing £15 for a program!
(1) Evan Bourne beat Alex Riley. I missed about five minutes at the start of the show due to the queue for merchandise. From what I saw, the match was predictable but enjoyable. It was nice to see the high-flying Bourne in action. I still feel that Riley is a better talker than a wrestler and has a long way to go. Overall, it was a decent way to start the show.
(2) Percy Watson beat Tyson Kidd. I thought this should have been the first match. I can remember I was surprised to see Percy, as I thought he was released. Average, nothing special. This was a match where fans started reading their programs.
(3) Santino & Koslov beat the Usos. When Santino's music hit, the fans went crazy. Santino got the crowd going in what was a rather fast-paced, good tag match. It was quite predictable, as it was obvious Santino would pick up the win with The Cobra, but it was a crowd-pleaser that got the crowd going.
(4) John Morrison beat Dolph Ziggler. Predictable finish with Morrison's Starship Pain spelling the end of the match. Nonetheless, it was good to see Morrison do his thing. I don't know how he does it night in, night out. It wasn't a match to write home about, with the only positive being Morrison and his moves.
(5) Divas champion Brie Bella beat Eve to retain the Divas Title. I don't know why they have championship matches at house shows, as you know the champion will retain. The Bellas came out to a cheer for some reason. The match was surprisingly not bad at all for a Divas match, but, again, you knew the winner straight away.
(6) Randy Orton beat C.M. Punk in a Street Fight. It was a Fan's Choice match with the other option two-out-of-three falls. The match was okay. It was good to see the big-name guys. There was a kendo stick and steel chair used to an extent. There was also crowd fighting. Orton teased a Punt on Punk, and I thought he might pull it off since they weren't on TV, but no. Orton hit the RKO for the win.
Before the break, R-Truth and four winning fans got in the ring for a dance-off. It was rather cringe-worthy. The winning fan got to go backstage and meet a Superstar. Truth was funny and at his best.
[Intermission]
(7) Sin Cara beat Primo. When I saw the trampoline getting set up outside the ring, I was excited to see Sin Cara, as I've been impressed by him on Raw. The match was fair with Sin Cara doing a few high-flying moves, but not as many as usual, though. Primo did well and I would say he is underused and underrated. He sold everything well and, overall, it was a decent match.
Sheamus then came out to say that he was embarrassed by what happened last Monday and came to the ring. He threw some punches at Sin Cara, who I think botched a huracanrana and instead just slid out of the ring and got away.
(8) U.S. champion Sheamus beat Daniel Bryan to retain the U.S. Title. Average match. Bryan reminded me of Benoit, as he did the crossface and the top rope move. Bryan came close to winning but, as predicted, Sheamus came out on top. One disappointing thing was that Bryan did not interact with the crowd as he exited. Even though he lost, other losing Superstars did interact with the crowd.
Time for the main event of The Miz vs. John Cena. Miz and Riley came out to a lot of boos and Miz said a few words before saying how he's MUST SEE and promoted his new t-shirt. He played heel very well, as did Riley. Miz dedicated his match to everyone with a red, white, and blue t-shirt. Cena came out and the place went nuts with high-pitched screams.
(9) John Cena beat WWE champion The Miz (w/Alex Riley) via DQ; Miz retained the WWE Title. The match was again okay with Riley getting sent back to the locker room to return later on. While Miz was in the STF, Riley pulled the ref out of the ring and hit Cena with the briefcase. Near the end, things looked bad for Miz, resulting in cena again being hit with the case, causing a DQ.
Post-match: As Cena was getting attacked, R-Truth came out to help. Many in the crowd thought Cena won the WWE Title despite the DQ. Cena, on exiting, in my opinion did not spend much time with the fans (at my side of the entrance ramp). As Cena was leaving, a fan about five or six-years-old ran out onto the stage (poor security?). Cena raised his hand and whispered in his ear and left. Show over.
To be honest, I preferred the Smackdown show in November. I thought it was less predictable, more fun, and the Superstars seemed to enjoy it more. I did enjoy the show and I would give it 7.5/10. It wasn't the best live show, but it was worth the £50 ticket price.
