WWE Smackdown brand house show report
November 11, 2010
Nuremberg, Germany
Report by Khristopher Watkins of Bamberg, Germany
I’m a service member stationed in Germany and I just came back from the Smackdown World Tour show in Nuremberg, Germany. This was my first live WWE event - I had previously attended three ROH shows and a TNA house show. The first thing that struck me was the amount of people attending the show – at least a good 5,000 or more. The lower portion of the arena was full (normally the Ice Tigers play hockey in the arena).
(1) Kaval beat Tyler Reks with the Double Stomp from the top rope. A good opener that went back and forth. Reks in person is a freak! Kaval hit all of his kicks and flips.
(2) Cody Rhodes beat Finley with a Spinning Kick to the face off the second robe after a chair shot to the leg. This match opened with a bit of comedy as Cody played to the crowd. Finlay got a good pop.
3) Intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler beat MVP to retain the IC Title. Ziggler won with an eye gouge and a roll-up. This was another match that started with comedy as Ziggler elbowed a fan's sign in the middle of the ring to start the match. MVP and Ziggler showed some solid wrestling when the match started.
(4) Natalya beat Layla with a spinning clothesline with Kelly Kelly as the special referee. The match started with Layla doing exercises on a work-out ball, then Natalya throwing it in her face. Natalya showed some power and wrestling skills, which makes her unique on the Divas roster. After the pin, Layla picked on Kelly Kelly, but Natalya made the save and they double clotheslined Layla.
(5) Edge & Rey Mysterio & Kofi Kingston beat Jack Swagger (w/Eagle) & Drew McIntyre & Alberto Del Rio. After a bit of jawing, Kofi was worked on through most the match before making a comeback and hot tagging to Rey. Rey hit his spots, and then Swagger worked him over. Rey was able to make the tag to Edge, who set up Rey for a 619 and the spear for the win. After the win, the Eagle picked a fight and Rey, then Kofi and Edge hit all of their “finishers” leading to intermission.
(6) Hart Dynasty (D.H. Smith & Tyson Kidd & Bret Hart) beat Nexus (Husky Harris & WWE tag champions Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater w/David Otunga) in a six-man tag match. Bret Hart won by applying the Sharpshooter on Slater. Smith and Kidd worked well in tandem as well as the Nexus. The hot tag was made to Bret, who work Slater's arm a bit, before applying the submission. Easily the best match of the night.
(7) Chris Masters beat Chavo Guerrero with the Masterlock. Easily the quickest and, therefore, worst match of the night.
(8) Big Show beat World Hvt. champion Kane via DQ; Kane retained the World Title. The match ended after Nexus interfered. Big Show and Kane did their "big man best" with Kane working Big Show's knee over before Nexus ran in and beat down Big Show. The “heels” than all came out and beat on Show. The “faces” made the save and heels bailed, leaving Otunga in the ring. Otunga was given finishers by Kaval, Hart Dynasty, Kofi, Masters, and Big Show to end the show.
All in all, a good night of wrestling. You don’t always need a 20-25 minute match to call it good, quality wrestling. No match went over 15 minutes, but there was enough good content presented that it wasn’t necessary to go any longer. I was satisfied and so was the crowd!
