WWE Raw house show report
August 18, 2010
Honolulu, Hawaii
Report by Reid S., PWTorch reader
WWE returned to the 808 State with a solid night of action. Floor seats and risers looked to be filled, as well as about half of the upper part of the arena. Attendance was 5,000-6,000.
(1) Evan Bourne pinned Ted DiBiase. Both wrestlers worked a fast-paced, solid match with the crowd clearly behind Bourne. The high-flyer finished DiBiase off with the Air Bourne. Very cool to see live!
Goldust came out for the second match, but he was ambushed by Nexus and laid out by David Otunga and Skip Sheffield. The Nexus members then got on the mic and demanded a tag team title match. The mystery Raw GM, whose influence apparently reaches out across the Pacific to house shows, nixed that demand. Instead, the GM ordered Nexus vs. the Hart Dynasty and if Nexus won, they would receive a future title match.
(2) Nexus (Skip Sheffield & Otunga) defeated WWE tag champions Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & D.H. Smith w/Natalya) in a non-title match. The finish came when Tyson Kidd attempted a springboard jump, but was nailed with a lariat by Sheffield. After the match, Sheffield laid face down in the ring with an apparent leg injury. He had to be helped out and could not put any weight on his left leg.
(3) U.S. champion The Miz beat Mark Henry to retain the U.S. Title. Miz did a great...no, an awesome job riling up the crowd with his mic work. Lots of stalling early on with Miz playing the role of cowardly heel. Miz pinned Henry after reversing a World's Strongest Slam attempt into a DDT.
(4) Randy Orton beat WWE champion Sheamus via DQ; Sheamus retained the WWE Title. Orton was over big time in Honolulu. Both men put on a solid, hard-hitting match. Orton was setting up for the RKO when Sheamus shoved the referee, causing the DQ. After the bell, an irate Orton hit the RKO anyway, laying out the champ. The Miz then ran down and attempted to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, but he was nailed with an RKO before anything could happen.
(5) Eve Torres & the Bella Twins beat Maryse & Jillian Hall & Alicia Fox in a six-Divas tag match. The Divas came out dressed in swimsuits and summer wear. For a while, it was anything but PG. Jillian rubbed one of the Bellas's face into her cleavage. Later, the face Divas attempted to rip off the heel Divas's shorts. After some wrestling, mixed in with hardcore weapons like beach balls and water guns, Eve pinned Fox following a DDT.
(6) Chris Jericho beat Yoshi Tatsu. Every time Jericho comes to Hawaii, he's greeted with chants of "Mahu." Mahu is local slang for a transvestite and Jericho played along as usual to the crowd's enjoyment. A decent match, but nobody in the arena gave Tatsu a shot of winning this one. Jericho finished him off following the Codebreaker.
(7) John Cena beat Wade Barrett via submission in a No DQ Match. Prior to the start of the match, the mystery GM changed the Main Event to a No Disqualification bout. After Cena hit Barrett with the Attitude Adjustment, David Otunga ran down to break up the pin. Barrett held Cena, but Otunga ended up nailing his Nexus leader instead. Orton then slid into the ring and hit an RKO on Otunga. Meanwhile, Cena forced Barrett to tap out with the STF.
Following the match, Orton and Cena shook hands and celebrated in the ring. After Orton left, Cena made his way around ringside shaking hands and signed a few autographs. My friends and I were sitting ringside for the first time ever. One of my friends is a huge Cena fan and got to shake his hand, and he went nuts.
