Main Event Championship Wrestling (MECW) show report
July 31, 2010
Monroe City, Ind.
Report by David Miller, PWTorch reader
MECW hosted a very good wrestling card last night to a full house at the Blue Jeans Community Center in Monroe City, Indiana last night.
In the main event, Chris Michaels beat TNA tag team champion Chase Stevens with a controversial finish. Stevens, who is from nearby Washington, Ind., got the hometown hero treatment from the crowd. The fans were hot for this match and solidly behind Stevens, who was pinned after about 25 minutes of solid wrestling with Michaels blatantly grabbing a handful of Chase's trunks behind the referee's back. After Chase and the crowd complained to the referee, the match was restarted and Stevens got a quick pin.
Executive Vice President A.C. West then came out and made the unpopular decision that the restart of the match wasn't sanctioned by MECW, therefore Michaels was still the winner. Stevens still declared himself the winner despite what West said and the crowd still celebrated with him.
Chase then went straight to the gimmick table, where he signed autographs, posed for pictures, and chatted with fans until the last person left the building.
Also on the card was the return of the flamboyant manager and promoter Bert Prentice's alter ego, Christopher "Honey" Love. Love took great joy in insulting the local crowd, which was more than happy to give it right back to him. Love's charge for the night, Matt Boyce, was disqualified in his match against Tommy Mercer when Tracy Smothers interfered. Smothers wrestled and beat the Metal Master earlier in the show with the help of his "illegitimate" daughter.
Chris Thomas beat Chris Phoenix after throwing a handful of powder in Phoenix's eyes.
Steve O. beat J.P. Lightning in a very good face vs. face opening match.
During the last intermission before the main event, MECW announced that Sid Vicious would be appearing on their next show in Evansville, Ind. on August 14.
