TNA house show results
July 3, 2010
Asbury Park, N.J.
Report by John, PWTorch reader
I attended TNA's Saturday night house show at Convention Hall in Asbury Park. It was my first live wrestling show and I was impressed with the show.
(1) Amazing Red beat Homicide and Brian Kendrick in a three-way X Division match. The match was about 5-6 minutes. (*1/2)
(2) Angelina Love beat Sara Del Rey in a #1 contender match to the Knockouts Title. Angelina won in about six minutes for the opportunity to face Madison Rayne for Knockouts Title "later that night." Not too bad of a match. After the match, Madison Rayne "attacked" Angelina Love from behind to set up...
(3) Knockouts champion Madison Rayne beat Angelina Love in about five minutes. Again, an average match. Referee Earl Hebner kissed both women towards the end of the match, which drew some funny reactions from the crowd.
(4) Jay Lethal beat Desmond Wolfe in ten minutes. Good match. Chelsea was not there. (**1/4)
Kurt Angle came out to speak for about ten minutes and he put over TNA. Good reaction for Angle.
(5) Jeff Hardy beat Abyss in about 15 minutes. I thought it was the best match of the night and at a PPV-quality level. Hardy won with the Swanton Bomb. He got a huge pop throughout the night every time he made an appearance (of which there were several). (***+)
[Intermission]
(6) Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon) beat Ink, Inc. (Jesse Neal & Shannon Moore) in a Tables match. I believe Shannon Moore was put through a table to take the loss. Two kids got pieces of the table after the match. The ring was then cleaned up before the main event.
(7) TNA World Hvt. champion Rob Van Dam beat A.J. Styles in about 15 minutes to retain the TNA World Title. RVD hit the Five Star Frog Splash for the win. Of the 15 minutes, about eleven were actual wrestling and four were stalling tactics to get the crowd going. Good match, but not as good as Hardy vs. Abyss.
Overall, it was a very fun show. There were a lot of empty seats, though. If I had to guess the crowd size, I'd say 1,300+ at the most. They were very loud, though.
