At Saturday night's CHIKARA show, Bryan Danielson returned to the ring for the first time since his WWE release earlier this month. Danielson faced Eddie Kingston in a good, satisfying wrestling match.
The headlines coming out of his return to the independent scene are how he was greeted by the fans and what he said on the mic.
Danielson was initially introduced with the NXT theme before it switched to his classic "Final Countdown" theme. The crowd then greeted him with neck ties instead of the traditional streamers. This seemed to get a laugh from Danielson, who then jokingly tried to attack the ref with one of the ties.
After the match, which Danielson won after a distraction by Claudio Castagnoli, Danielson took the mic and hinted at a big project he's working on right now. He said he couldn't talk more about it right now.
Danielson also mentioned his time in WWE and said he doesn't know where he's going from here. He said that for the time being on the independent scene, he's going to try to put a spotlight on independent wrestling.
Danielson went on to say that CHIKARA is a great example of PG wrestling while still having great action and excitement. Danielson stayed until the end of tonight's card, then walked out among the crowd to sign autographs and take pictures with everyone.
As for Danielson's match with Kingston, it was filled with plenty of chops, strikes, and Danielson's signature technical wrestling style. He won the match by roll up after Kingston was distracted by Claudio Castagnoli.
Overall, the CHIKARA show was a good night of wrestling, highlighted by Danielson's return to the independent scene. CHIKARA'S weekend tour continues on Sunday afternoon with a show in Cleveland that Danielson will also be featured on.
