TNA house show report
March 18, 2010
Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Report by Scott Atwood, Torch reader
I just got back from the TNA show at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg, Miss. The place was packed and there appeared to be about 1,200 people in the place. The crowd was hot most of the night up until the main event when I think we were all getting a little tired. Here is a rundown of the happenings of the night.
Jeremy Borash came out to excite the crowd with promises of backstage passes. He did this several times during the night and throwing out some to random people, promising that whoever cheered the loudest would get the pass.
(1) Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) beat Generation Me (Jeremy Buck & Max Buck). The crowd was super hot for the opening match and ate up every move from these guys. The Guns got the win in usual fashion. Great opening match.
(2) Knockouts champion Tara beat Daffney to retain the Knockouts Title. The match was slow and sloppy at times. Tara got the win with a roll-up.
(3) X Division champion Doug Williams beat Daniels and Homicide in a three-way match to retain the X Division Title. The crowd was hot for this one also and was in love with Daniels, cheering him on the entire match. Williams got the win with the Chaos Theory rolling German suplex on Daniels.
Desmond Wolfe came out and cut a promo calling the crowd Mississippi morons and churned up some cheap heat, then began cutting into The Pope before settling on Jeff Jarrett. He said he was going to tear down TNA and start with the foundation, and that foundation is Jarrett.
(4) Jeff Jarrett beat Desmond Wolfe. There was a lot of playing to the crowd in this match. Jarrett was clearly the fan favorite and there were nothing but boos for Wolfe. Jarrett got the win clean.
Jarrett said on Twitter about the match: "Just got out of the ring w/Desmond. They don't make them like that anymore. He's not afraid to be the bad guy."
Jeremy Borash advertised merchandise before sending us to intermission.
After the break, Beer Money promised backstage passes, but not to anybody in Hattiesburg because we invented the toothbrush...and everyone should know that because if it were invented anywhere else, it would be called a teethbrush. Kevin Nash and Eric Young came out and Young showed more personality during this one night than I've witnessed his entire TNA career. The crowd also loved him, chanting his name on several occasions.
(5) Kevin Nash & Eric Young beat Beer Money (James Storm & Robert Roode). The match was full of comedy bits, mostly involving sexual innuendo and penis jokes from Beer Money. Apparently Robert Roode stuffs his trunks with a sock and Beer Money is equal to the Ambiguously Gay Duo. After all of the comedy, Nash hits his lazy powerbomb for the win.
(6) TNA World Hvt. champion A.J. Styles beat "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero to retain the TNA World Hvt. Title. Styles won with assistance from Desmond Wolfe. The crowd was completely worn out by the time the main event rolled around, so these two had a tough job keeping everyone involved. Good match with some mat work and a bit of back and forth. Both guys got a chance to get in their signature offense. Wolfe came down when Pope had the upper hand, caused a distraction, and gave Styles the quick win. There was a Pope beat down afterwards, but that was thwarted by Jeff Jarrett.
After the show, Generation Me, Eric Young, Daniels, and The Pope signed autographs. Jeff Jarrett stayed in the ring. For the low, low price of $20, you and your crew could get in the ring with him and take a picture that would be printed on the spot. All in all, a good show for a packed house. JB promised they would be back, and from the way the crowd stayed hot for practically the entire show, I believe him.
