WWE Raw brand house show report
February 27, 2010
Lubbock, Tex.
Report by Amanda Casey, Torch reader
Here is a run down of the Raw house show that occurred Saturday night. First of all, the crowd was very much a face crowd. Any face wrestler was greeted with a nice pop and heel wrestlers got heat.
(1) Christian beat Jack Swagger. Swagger proudly announced that he was an Oklahoma University native and proudly supported Oklahoma football, while Christian played to the Texas Tech crowd by "shooting his guns." (Lubbock is home of Texas Tech Univ.) Decent match with Christian winning.
(2) Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie) beat Divas champion Maryse & Alicia Fox. The crowd just seemed so bored during this match. It wasn't a bad match and the divas really fought for the crowd reaction.
Kelly Kelly then came out to a good pop to find a special guest bellringer. She asked where WrestleMania will be taking place this year and a little girl answered correctly. Nice way to get the kids involved.
(3) Primo beat William Regal. Nice match for the crowd to get behind. Nothing special, but a really nice match. Primo got the win with a backstabber. As Primo walked out of the arena, Legacy came out and attacked him to set up the next match.
(4) Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne beat Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase). Kofi and Evan come out to a huge pop. Really good match - very nice quality. Kofi hit the Trouble in Paradise, then Evan hit the Air Bourne for the win.
(5) Santino Marella beat Chavo Guerrero. The crowd was full of kids and they went crazy for Santino. Santino taunted Chavo for the first few minutes and Chavo got a lot of heat. The match was more of a comic relief match more than a technical match, like the previous one. Santino won with the Cobra.
(6) Chris Masters (w/Eve) beat Carlito via submission. Carlito came out to a mixed reaction, but once Masters came out, all the heat was on Carlito. The match was fairly decent, but nothing really stood out. Carlito had a little interaction with Eve so she didn't just stand there. Masters applied the Masterlock and the match was over.
[Intermission]
The Miz came out to lots of heat. He did a lot of mic work and basically said he's a changed man and realizes everyone came to see him. MVP then came out to a really nice pop.
(7) U.S. champion The Miz beat MVP to retain the United States Title. This was a really excellent match. There were a couple of times I recall a "This is awesome" chant. Really well-executed match. The Miz won and retained his championship. MVP left with a really nice applause and even had some "MVP" chants during the match.
(8) John Cena & Mark Henry beat Randy Orton & Unified tag champion Big Show in the main event. Orton came out to a lot of heat. When he got to the ring, he did his old pose and got some applause for that. Show got mixed reactions. Henry's entrance got a nice pop that surprised me. Cena came out to the biggest pop of the night. The entire stadium went wild. Lots of Cena chants. The match began with Orton vs. Cena, which the audience loved. A few moments after both Cena and Orton were knocked out, it was Show vs. Henry. Huge pop for that match-up. The match continued and Orton left the match early. Just as it seemed Show might win it, Hornswoggle appeared and tried Sweet Chin Music on Show's knee. After that, Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment on Show for the win.
After the match, Cena, Mark Henry, and Hornswoggle did the crowd pop thing and we saw a heel-clicking contest between the three. It ended with Cena thanking the crowd and the crowd went absolutely crazy for him.
Biggest pops
(1) John Cena (by a landslide)
(2) MVP
(3) Hornswoggle
Biggest Heat
(1) Randy Orton
(2) The Miz
(3) Legacy
