Pro Wrestling Guerrilla show report
February 27, 2010
Reseda, Calif.
Report by Luke Fleeman, Torch VIP member
This was PWG's first show since the joint weekend with ROH at WrestleReunion. I attended at the promotion's normal venue in Reseda for "As the Worm Turns."
(1) Johnny Goodtime & LTP beat Malachi Jackson & Ryan Taylor. There was a great exchange of pinning predicaments between Goodtime and Taylor, and an extended beat down on LTP. Goodtime hit the Koop killer and LTP hit a corkscrew 450 to pin Jackson.
(2) Brandon Gatson beat Scott Lost after an inverted DDT of some kind. Lost started the attack before the match, and they had some great spots.
Human Tornado gave a retirement speech, which the fans lamented with a "please don't go" chants. A little boy protested the retirement, and the crowd chanted him down. Very emotional.
(3) Roderick Strong beat Chris Sabin with a series of backbreakers and a stiff kick. A really stiff match with some big hits. Strong's signature chops left Sabin's chest looking like raw meat.
(4) Joey Ryan & Candice La Rae & Brandon Bonham beat the Cutler Brothers & Christina Von Eerie. This was another good outing for the ladies, who take all the same bumps as the men. Joey Ryan was at his sleazy best, and LaRae hit a top-rope denying neckbreaker for the win.
Intermission. It's hot in here.
(5) Chris Hero beat Alex Shelley with a Hero's Welcome. This was an awesome technical match, with a lot of submissions and mat holds, and good chain wrestling leading up to a high impact finish. Afterwards, Hero praised Shelley and told Kenny Omega he was coming for the title.
(6) PWG tag champions Generation Me (Young Bucks) defeated 2 Skinny Black Guys of Low Moral Fiber Chuck Taylor & El Generico) with More Bang for Your Buck to retain the titles. Generation Me continued to play up their TNA link to anger the independent show crowd. Good match.
(7) Davey Richards beat PWG champion Kenny Omega via submission to capture the PWG World Title. Great main event.
This was an incredible show. I hope everyone will try to get to a PWG show, because they are a great promotion. Or, check out their latest DVDs at prowrestlingguerrilla.com. Also, if you like the show "Communit," the actress who plays Brita comes to the shows.
