My friends and I arrived early to the event in the Kansas Expo Center. Before the show, they had a signing with Team 3D, but they would only sign official TNA merchandise. After purchasing programs for $20, we got them signed be 3D and talked to them a little about the show and our favorite wrestlers. They seemed a little annoyed to be out there, but once we started talking, they were really funny and gracious.
The place was not too full, but still a fun atmosphere. We were positioned by the entranceway, so we got to see how all of the stars interacted with fans.
(1) Chris Sabin beat "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal. The crowd was really into Lethal, but my friends and I were rooting for one-half of the Motor City Machineguns. The match had a few really cool spots in it, including a beautiful springboard dive to the outside by Sabin. Sabin got the win, with the crowd booing his victory.
Afterward, Jeremy Borash talked about how the loudest fans would be able to go backstage and meet their favorite superstars. We tried to be really loud, but they gave most of the passes to little kids.
(2) Knockouts champion Tara beat ODB to retain the Knockouts Title with Shark Boy as guest referee. The crowd was cheering for Tara, but they REALLY liked Shark Boy. Tara and Shark Boy did a little comedy bit in the middle, exchanging bites to each other's backsides. In the middle of the match, one of ODB's boob pads came out and she threw it at Shark Boy, which was funny. Tara won after her finisher and ODB tried to take out Shark Boy. He caught her, gave her the Stone Cold Stunner, and then celebrated just like Stone Cold, even drinking out of ODB's flask.
Referee Earl Hebner came out to work the next match, but he was told by JB that he had been suspended indefinitely by Hulk Hogan. Hebner was then escorted out by security.
(3) TNA tag champions Hernandez & Matt Morgan beat Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon) to retain the TNA tag titles. Hernandez and Matt Morgan (who we fondly call Morgandez) defended their tag titles against Team 3D, who the crowd was firmly behind, with the exception of a few small patches of people. The crowd chanted "We Want Tables" throughout the entire match, which kept making Hernandez laugh. He turned to the crowd and kept shaking his head and laughing. After 3D worked over Morgan's leg, he made a hot tag to Hernandez and they won to retain their titles. Afterward, the four stars had a staredown in the ring. Finally, Team 3D shook hands with Morgandez, and raised their arms in victory. Brother Devon tried to walk of with Morgan's belt, but got caught, which made Morgan laugh.
Afterward, Abyss came out to a nice reaction... until they announced Samoa Joe as his opponent. The second Joe came out, the crowd was 100 percent behind him. Abyss sold that he was upset when people started booing him.
(4) Samoa Joe beat Abyss via submission. It was a fairly generic match, with Joe winning with the rear naked choke. Afterward, Joe was very kind to the audience members, bumping fists with several fans, and talking to a few little kids. He even posed for a picture at the entrance for one fan.
During intermission, Tara signed autographs and Don West sold merchandise. Also, the backstage pass winners got to go back.
(5) The Pope D'Angelo Dinero beat Desmond Wolfe. Strangely, not many people seemed to know who Wolfe was, so the crowd sided with Pope. They put on a decent match, with a few teases to The Tower of London. Wolfe was really talkative and made tons of gestures to the crowd, which I thought was really entertaining. Pope won with his finisher and posed with a little boy sporting his glasses.
For the main event, Mr. Anderson came out first. When he went to reach for his microphone, JB ran up and placed a mic in his hand, which was really funny. He called the crowd "mouthbreathers and morons" instead of ladies and gentleman, which got loud boos. Then, Jeff Jarrett came out with the crowd's backing.
(6) Jeff Jarrett beat Mr. Anderson in the main event. Anderson kept trying to get the crowd behind him at first by posing on the turnbuckles, but Jarrett kept stealing his thunder by doing the same thing. Anderson had a lot of great heel spots in the match, including making fun of Jarrett's signature scissor strut thing. Eventually, Jarrett won with a low blow to Anderson, followed by a small package.
Afterward, JB brought out several superstars to sign autographs and take pictures with the remaining fans. We got autographs with Sabin, Morgandez (we got pictures with Hernandez and Morgan, too), the Pope (who was a little rude and short), and Lethal. All besides Pope were very gracious, kind, and easy to talk to.
Overall, the show was really entertaining. The meet-and-greet at the end and the main event were so much fun. I will definitely be going to another TNA show!
Biggest Pops: Team 3D, Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe, Shark Boy.
Biggest Boos: Mr. Anderson, Chris Sabin, Abyss.
