AAW "Chaos Theory" show results
January 22, 2010
Berwyn, Ill.
Report by Richard Karels, Torch subscriber since '98
AAW returned to the Eagles Club in Berwyn, Illinois, just outside Chicago, this past Friday night. They run the venue monthly and have recently expanded to the Quad cities, near the Illinois/Iowa border. Luminaries in attendance included Gabe Sapolsky and Lacey.
(a) The Hybrids beat Chris Hall & Jeff Brooks.
AAW owner Jim Lynam came out to address the crowd briefly. He noted that he was a big fan of the Original ECW, which is evident from watching one of his shows. They have a very professional setup for an independent promotion with a big screen over the entrance showing promos from guys throughout the show.
(1) Jay Bradley beat Kyle O'Reilly with a lariat. Bradley is the former Ryan Braddock on WWE Smackdown, where he had a very brief run in 2008 before being sent back to FCW, and eventually released. He works an aggressive, big-league style and carries himself like a somebody. Squash.
(2) Hallowicked beat Gran Akuma, Jigsaw, Flip Kendrick, Louis Lyndon, and Trik Davis in a six-man mayhem match. Spot-spot-spot-spot-spot-spot-finish. In other words, exactly what the match figured to be. Hallowicked won an AAW title shot on the pre-show of the following night's Dragon Gate PPV taping.
Chandler McClure was led to the ring by his crew for a birthday party, complete with cake. McClure freaked out when he saw the cake, saying he's no idiot, and he knows exactly what happens when cake is on a wrestling show. He tried to leave, but he was stopped by Colt Cabana. He sent his minions to get him, but Cabana disposed of them quickly. McClure then attacked, Cabana took advantage, and, well, I'll give you one guess what happened next. Arik Cannon ran out and attacked Cabana. Cabana ended Cannon's 14-month title reign not long ago and Cannon was looking for a re-match.
(3) AAW Heritage champion Colt Cabana beat Johnny Gargano to retain the AAW Heritage Title in about seven minutes.
(4) Davey Richards beat Super Crazy in about nine minutes. Crazy has gotten heavy. He still moved quickly, but also gassed quickly. Good, if short match. Crazy either injured his thumb, or he was selling it like crazy.
(5) The Phoenix Twins & Dan Lawrence beat House of Truth (Josh Raymond & Christian Able & Mason Beck w/Truth Martini and Val Malone). Raymond and Able are the AAW tag champs and appeared on the last ROH show in Chicago. Beck is a big dude with "the look," and AAW has been grooming and bringing along slowly. Lots of action here. Good match.
(6) Knight Wagner & Jordan McEntyre (w/Johnny Wisdom) beat Nick Brubaker & Ryan Boz (w/Danny Daniels) in the popcorn match. Daniels is the heel ref from the very end of the original ECW.
(7) The Irish Airborne beat Zero Gravity with a spike Tombstone Piledriver.
(8) Shane Hollister beat Tyler Black. Good back and forth face vs. face match, with the story of Hollister out to prove that he can hold his own with the top stars of AAW. Hollister gets a future AAW Title shot for winning.
(8) Arik Cannon & Darrin Corbin (w/Nikki Mayday) beat Krotch Mayday & Lince Dorado. After the match, Cabana came out and chased off Cannon.
(9) AAW champion Silas Young beat Jimmy Jacobs to retain the AAW Title. Young had a WWE developmental deal about a year ago, but he didn't last long. It's a shame, as he is very talented. A long, good match. Irish Airborne came out to help out Young, but Hollister and Black chased them off. Jacobs bladed. Young won when Jacobs passed out from a guillotine choke.
Overall a very good show, with lots of action, maybe a bit too much. Check me out on MySpace at myspace.com/wrestling hullabaloo.
