WWE Raw house show results
January 22, 2010
Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Report by Asa Gray, Torch reader

The show was held at The Show Me Center, which Evan Bourne on his Twitter called "The MSG of Southeast Missouri." The arena can hold about 6,000 people and it was about 80-85 percent full. It was surprising how many people were there especially since the last Raw house show was only about 50 percent full. The crowd (not surprisingly) was mostly little kids and their parents.

(1) Yoshi Tatsu beat Zack Ryder. The first match was a "Special ECW Exhibition." The kids were hot for Tatsu, who pinned Ryder after a top rope spinning heel kick.

(2) Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase, Jr.) beat Evan Bourne & Mark Henry. Lots of heat for Legacy. The match was back-and-forth. Both Bourne and Henry made hot tags in the match and got in plenty of offense. Rhodes got the pin on Bourne with the Cross Rhodes.

(3) Primo beat Johnny Curtis. Curtis cut a generic heel promo before the match saying why he was better than everyone in attendance. The crowd was dead for the match. No one knew who Curtis was and no one cared about Primo.

Kelly Kelly then came out to ask, "How many superstars are in the Royal Rumble match?" A girl answered 30 and she was named the guest timekeeper for the next match.

(4) U.S. champion The Miz beat MVP, Jack Swagger, and Carlito in a four-way to retain the U.S. Title. Before the match, The Miz cut a great promo saying he doesn't need the support of the crowd or the locker room; he is and will be a main eventer and he has the "it" factor. ... Because he's The Miz and he's awesome. Throughout the match, Swagger and Carlito teamed up to beat on MVP while every time The Miz tried to get into the ring, he would be thrown out. The finish was MVP throwing Swagger out of the ring, then hitting Carlito with the Playmaker, but Miz came out of nowhere and threw MVP out of the ring to pin Carlito for the win.

(5) Gail Kim & Bella Twins beat Maryse & Alicia Fox & Jillian Hall in a six-divas tag match with Santino Marella as guest referee. Comedy match that went entirely too long. The heels all took their turns beating down Bella no. 1. Gail Kim FINALLY got a tag and pinned Jillian with what I assume is her finisher since she never uses it on TV.

Intermission saw Hornswoggle and Kelly Kelly throwing T-Shirts to the crowd. Hornswoggle went to give Justin Roberts the last shirt to throw to the crowd, but he did DX crotch chops and threw it himself.

(6) Big Show beat Chris Masters. Back from intermission, the crowd was solidly behind the heel, Big Show, until Masters did his pec flex to Hulk Up. Big Show won with a chokeslam, though. It was basically a squash match. During the match, Show got on the mic and told a fan, "Shut up, don't challenge me, you'll have a heart attack on the way to the fridge!"

(7) Randy Orton beat Kofi Kingston. Great match with lots of nearfalls. Kofi kicked out of the RKO and Orton kicked out of the Trouble in Paradise. Crowd was split between little kids cheering Kofi and everyone else cheering for Orton. (We are only about 100 miles south of St. Louis, so Orton is a "hometown talent.") The finish was Orton ducking another Trouble in Paradise kick, then hitting the RKO.

(8) John Cena beat WWE champion Sheamus via DQ, Sheamus retained the WWE Title. I wish I could say Sheamus beat Cena clean, but that wasn't the case. Sheamus shoved the ref and then Cena locked in the STF. Sheamus tapped immediately and the ref called for the bell. All the kids thought Cena won the title and almost rioted when it was announced he won by DQ and Sheamus was still champ. Actually, a pretty good match. Sheamus got lots of offense in and kicked out of the Attitude Adjustment. Of course, Cena kicked out of both the Irish Curse kick and the Celtic Cross/Razor's Edge. The crowd absolutely exploded when his music played and the entire audience seemed behind Cena the entire match.

Top babyface reactions - Cena, Hornswoggle, and Evan Bourne.

Top heel heat - Sheamus, Legacy, and Miz.
