WWE house show report
November 11, 2009
London, England at the O2 Arena
Report by Daniel Sage of Aylesbury, U.K., Torch reader
The show started with a battle royal, with the winner getting a title shot against WWE champion John Cena later that night.
(1) Chris Jericho won a battle royal to earn a title shot. Jerishow, Legacy, Kofi, MVP, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger, Santino, Randy Orton, the Miz, and Chris Masters all came out to Raw's music. The match wasn't that long, with Orton, Swagger, and Masters getting eliminated early on. Santino was eliminated, then got back in the ring. In the end it came down to Santino, Mark Henry, and Jerishow. Show was trying to push Henry out, and Jericho tipped them both out. Santino threw Jericho over the ropes but Jericho hung on. Santino did not realize, turned his back to trumpet his success, and Jericho threw him out to win the title shot.
(2) Paul Burchill beat Hurricane Helms. Next came an ECW match-up, with Paul Burchill taking on the Hurricane. Slow, dull match, with Burchill finally getting the win.
(3) U.S. champion The Miz beat MVP. Better match, with both sides getting in offense. Miz got the pin in the end after hitting the Skull Crushing Finale.
(3) Divas champion Melina & Gail Kim beat Alicia Fox & Jillian Hall. Jillian treated the UK to some singing before the match started. The match finished with Melina hitting the Primal Scream for the win.
(4) Evan Bourne beat Chavo Guerrero. Good match, lots of flying spots, with both men looking strong. Chavo started to hit the 3 Amigos, but Bourne countered. Bourne hit the Shooting Star Press off the top rope for the win.
(5) Randy Orton beat Kofi Kingston. Kofi Kingston came out to a good fan reaction. Similarly good heat for his opponent, Randy Orton, who did his old-style "throwing his arms up" pose on the turnbuckle (he never seems to do that on TV anymore!). Good match, with Kofi keeping the match fast-paced, and Orton heeling it up appropriately, continually rolling out of the ring to prevent Kofi getting momentum. Orton hit the DDT from the middle rope early on, and later Kofi hit the Boom Drop. They teased Trouble in Paradise a few times, with Orton eventually ducking and hitting the RKO for the win.
(6) DX (Shawn Michaels & Triple H) beat Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase, Jr.) DX came out to massive fan reaction, threw glowsticks into the crowd, and did their usual pre-match chatter. Legacy came out to a large series of boos and the tag match started. Pretty standard match, with Legacy trapping Shawn in the ring for an extended period of time. At one point, DX both grabbed Legacy and pulled their trunks down, and Legacy ran around for a bit with their bums showing to the great delight of the younger fans in the audience. Eventually, Hornswoggle came out from under the ring and performed Sweet Chin Music on Cody, hitting him in the shin. The distraction allowed HBK and Hunter to hit their finishers simultaneously on Rhodes and DiBiase, which led to a double-pin for the win. Big HBK chants going all the way through this match. DX and Hornswoggle did the DX pose in the ring.
- Chris Jericho came out for the final match against John Cena. He talked for a bit, calling the crowd 'plonkers' and saying how much he was going to beat Cena. Someone from the crowd threw a DX glowstick at him and it clocked him right on the back of the head. He shouted, "Who's the son of a bitch who threw that at me? I dare you to come down here and I'll beat your ass!" That prompted a whole tirade of sticks to be thrown into the ring. Jericho just strutted around like he didn't care, with sticks bouncing off him left, right, and center. Great stuff. Cena's music hit and he got a massive pop.
(7) WWE champion John Cena beat Chris Jericho. The match started with both sides getting in offense. As it went on, Jericho got the upper hand. He threw Cena out a few times, then Cena hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Jericho jumped out of the way, and the match continued. Jericho went to get a chair, but the ref stopped him. Jericho reversed some move of Cena's into the Walls of Jericho, which Cena then reversed into the STF. Jericho managed to hit a Codebreaker, but he took a long time to get the to the pin, which Cena kicked out of. Cena then hit the Attitude Adjustment and Jericho kicked out with a very close nearfall. Bit more back and forth, then Cena hit another Attitude Adjustment for the win. He stayed in the ring after the match and thanked the fans for their support, blah blah blah.
