Ring of Honor show results
September 25, 2009
Boston, Mass.
Report by Sean Radican, Torch columnist
(1) Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) beat Cheech & Cloudy. Fantastic opener. Matt pinned Cheech after their double-team More Bang For Your Buck combo. (***1/4)
(2) Delirious (w/Daizee Haze) beat Sonjay Dutt. Good match. Delirious rolled up Dutt for the win. Afterward, Dutt attacked Delirious and Haze tried to make the save, but Dutt put her in the Camel Clutch. Several people from the back then ran in to make the save. (**1/2)
(3) Claudio Castagnoli beat Petey Williams, Chris Hero, and El Generico in a Four Corner Survival match. Crazy match. Claudio pinned Williams after the Ricola Bomb finisher. (***1/2)
Bret Hart came to the ring and cut a great promo. Great reaction from the crowd. He put over ROH and Boston fans. ROH announcer Bobby Cruise then announced ROH will be returning to Boston, but there isn't a date yet.
(4) Kevin Steen beat ROH tag champion Eddie Edwards in a Street Fight. Finish was Steen delivering a Package Piledriver through four chairs to get the win. They took a lot of punishment and the crowd loved it, but this wasn't my thing in this day and age. (n/r)
(5) Dark City Fight Club (Kory Chavis & Jon Davis) beat Bobby Dempsey & "Sugarfoot" Alex Payne. DCFC used a combo Ace Cutter and powerbomb for the win. This went way too long. (*1/2)
(6) Roderick Strong beat Nigel McGuinness. Strong won after two Gibson Drivers. This was very good. Nigel cut a promo after the match to a big ovation from the fans. Nigel thanked the fans, then Roderick Strong for a great match. (***3/4)
(7) ROH champion Austin Aries & Rhett Titus beat Colt Cabana & Kenny Omega. Long, but good tag match. Aries hit a low blow and two kicks to Cabana's head behind the ref's back that allowed Titus to roll up Colt for the win. (**3/4)
(8) ROH tag team champion Davey Richards beat Bryan Danielson. An epic, 38-minute match. Richards won with the Kimura lock submission hold. Match of the Year Candidate. (*****)
Afterward, Richards cut a promo thanking Danielson for the match and his contributions to ROH. Danielson then cut a farewell promo one night before his actual farewell in New York City. Danielson left to his Final Countdown theme music to close the show.
