Pro Wrestling Guerrilla "Speed of Sound" results

Reseda, Calif.
Report by Mike Roe, Torch specialist
PWG presented Brian Kendrick's first match since being released by WWE earlier this month. It was also the beginning of Bryan Danielson's Farewell Tour before joining WWE. ... Excalibur cut his usual show opening promo, but it was mostly centered around some problems with the sound system.
(1) The Cutler Brothers (Brandon & Dustin Cutler) beat Brandon Gatson & Johnny Goodtime in a tag team match with a double team spike piledriver. Good opener, and probably the most entertained I've ever been by a Cutlers match. The fans were really into Goodtime. I also think that Gatson has a great, big time pro wrestler look, though he may be a bit small for WWE, but he looks like a good sized guy by PWG standards.
(2) Human Tornado beat Shane Haste, Charles Mercury, and Jerome "LTP" Robinson in a four-way match. LTP is awesome, and he's one of my favorites of the newer wrestlers in PWG, doing a lot of really athletic moves and flying all over the place. Mercury was busted open with a huge gash down his jaw, bleeding everywhere late in the match. I ran into his girlfriend during intermission at the pharmacy across the street in a bit of a panic buying band-aids and noting that they weren't insured, so he wasn't going to be getting stitches.
(3) Scott Lost beat Colt "Boom Boom" Cabana in a singles match. Cabana did a lot of comedy here, with Lost playing straight man, though Lost underplayed it. I thought some of Cabana's schtick fell flat, but a good match overall. Cabana was helped to the back after the match due to the beating sustained facing Lost (though, because this is independent wrestling, he was at the merch booth before long).
(4) PWG Tag Team champions The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) beat The Dynasty International (Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson & Joey Ryan) in a non-title tag team match. This was a great match. The fans continue to turn more and more against the Young Bucks, and they're basically playing heel at this point after fans started turning on them at DDT4 when they beat the Men of Low Moral Fiber (Chuck Taylor and Kenny Omega) in a great match that the fans wanted Taylor and Omega to win. Ryan and Anderson largely played babyface here, and they did some of the Young Bucks's spots in the middle of the match.
[Intermission]
(5) Chuck Taylor beat El Generico in a Reseda Street Fight for the number one contendership to the World Tag Team Championship. Another interesting one since Generico's a babyface, but fans are starting to get behind Taylor, so a definite split reaction, dueling chants match. Generico hit a coast to coast style move, along with a lot of other craziness in here. They really used the space, including going into the bathroom for Generico to flush Taylor's head in the toilet (allegedly), and Generico diving over the bar to attack Taylor. They pulled out a table, a rarity for PWG, and Generico teased the top rope brainbuster through the table, but Taylor countered, sending Generico through the table and getting the win. Human Tornado, who's been partnering with Generico, ran out after the match to check on him as he lay in the rubble.
(6) Brian Kendrick beat "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson in a "Special Grudge Match." The fans chanted "Welcome back" for Kendrick and "Please don't go" for Danielson. A good match that didn't go particularly long, with a finish of Kendrick kicking Danielson with a low blow that seemingly came out of nowhere. Great heat early, though I don't know that the match lived up to those expectations just because nothing could.
Danielson cut a promo after talking about how a vocal minority have said that he's a sell out. He said that he IS a sell out, because to be a sell out, you have to leave something you really love. He said he'd love to wrestle on independent shows forever, but he's going to have medical bills in his future to pay for. He then hyped his match next week against Chris Hero, and said that he would try to give the fans an awesome match. No mic work from Kendrick, but the fans were very into him.
(7) PWG champion Chris Hero beat Roderick Strong to retain the PWG World Title. Very good brawling main event. Hero cut a promo after the match praising Roderick and hyping up next week's show with his match against Danielson, which will be Danielson's last match in a PWG ring.
