7/31 WWE in Hampton, N.H.: John Morrison vs. C.M. Punk, Khali vs. Kane main event, Injury report Aug 1, 2009 - 1:05:32 PM
WWE Smackdown/ECW house show report
July 31, 2009
Hampton, New Hampshire
Report by Sam, Torch reader
(1) Cryme Tyme (Shad Gaspar & JTG) pinned The Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & D.H. Smith). Smith introduced the Dynasty. The match itself was fun but nothing special.
(2) Drew McIntyre pinned Jimmy Wang Yang. A good match with Jimmy getting in offense at the beginning.
(3) Goldust pinned Paul Burchill (w/Katie Lea)
(4) Eve beat Women's champion Michelle McCool by a countout. An injury to McCool occurred when Eve pushed McCool out of the ring. I would assume she landed awkwardly, but I couldn't see the side of the ring she fell onto. The ref signaled for an EMT, then counted McCool out. After the match, McCool walked out supported by the EMT and the ref. She was visibly in pain.
(5) ECW champion Christian pinned Tommy Dreamer. This match was better than most of their PPV matches. I think they were given more time than usual. The finish was a little awkward with Dreamer reversing the Killswitch only for Christian to immediately try again, which Dreamer reversed again, and Christian tried again, and Dreamer reversed, and finally with his third try in about 30 seconds, Christian hit Dreamer with the Killswitch.
[Intermission]
(6) John Morrison pinned C.M. Punk. Punk came out first and cut a promo about how he hasn't changed, and he is saying the same things he said three years ago. The match itself was okay, although Morrison and Punk have had much better matches on TV. In the end, Morrison won with Starship Pain.
(7) Intercontinental champion Rey Mysterio pinned Dolph Ziggler. A pretty good match. At one point Mysterio jumped onto Ziggler tackling him down to the hard unpadded floor, clearly these guys weren't watching McCool's match. To finish the match Mysterio hit the 619.
(8) Great Khali beat Kane via DQ. I am assuming this was practice for the Khali-Kane program, and if it is, I pray they don't waste PPV time on the match. If the match I saw was any indication, these two will have a very stiff match, although Kane was moving fast at times. The match ended with Kane kneeing Khali below the belt and the ref DQ'ing him. After the match, Kane attacked Khali with a Chair, but Khali blocked it.
Overall, it was a fun show. Best match of the night was Mysterio-Ziggler, but the Dreamer-Christian match was a close second.
