WWE Smackdown/ECW report
July 8, 2009
Tokyo, Japan at Budokan Hall
Report by Koichi Yoshizawa, PWTorch correspondent
(1) John Morrison pinned Shelton Benjamin at 13:51 with the Starship Press.
(2) Melina & Gail Kim defeated Michelle McCool & Alicia Fox when Melina pinned McCool at 10:24 with a standing leglock.
(3) The Great Khali pinned Dolph Ziggler at 5:36 with a Khali Bomb.
(4) Rey Mysterio pinned Evan Bourne at 16:41 with a frog splash. Great action. Bourne did the Shooting Star Press and dive onto Rey at ringside. Rey did the 619 and then the frog splash for the win. Fans gave the match an ovation aftewrard.
(5) Tommy Dreamer & Christian beat Mark Henry & Jack Swagger when Christian pinned Swagger at 14:55 with an Unprettier.
(6) Chris Jericho pinned Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat at 16:21. The fans cheered both wrestlers. Steamboat wrestled Japanese style after a 19 year absence. Steamboat had wrestled the late Mitsuharu Misawa (when he was Tiger Mask). Steamboat did his favorite Cyclon whip twice, hit a plancha, and his signature chops. Jericho caught Steamboat with the Walls of Jericho. Steambaot reversed it and went for a cradle pin. Jericho finally caught him with a Walls of Jericho for the win. Great action.
(7) C.M. Punk defeated Jeff Hardy in a no rules match. They used a garbage can, kendo stick, a table, a ladder, and a chair. Hardy gave Punk his Go 2 Sleep finisher and then a Swanton Bomb onto a table. Hardy did the Twist of Fate later. They used foreign objects. Punk pulled him off the ladder and finished Hardy with his Go 2 Sleep. It was a better main event than the regular match last night between these two. Punk climbed to all four corner turnbuckles afterward and the crowd cheered him.
