7/8 WWE in Perth, Australia: Randy Orton vs. Triple H, Big Show vs. The Miz, MVP vs. Chavo Guerrero Jul 8, 2009 - 2:10:23 PM
WWE Raw brand house show report
July 8, 2009
Perth, Australia at Burswood Dome
Report by Ben T., PWTorch.com reader
The place was absolutely packed! We set a new attendance record as well for the arena.
(1) Goldust (w/Hornswoggle) defeated The Brian Kendrick. Goldust was the first out to a decent pop but Hornswoggle was the main attraction getting the most cheers, Goldust picked up the win after an inverted vertical suplex and Horny nailed Kendrick with the Tadpole Splash after the match for good measure.
(2) Sheamus defeated Santino Marella. Sheamus got the pin on Santino after a bicycle kick, pretty decent heel heat for Sheamus even though he's only had one TV appearance, Santino some pre match mic work on Sheamus making fun of his paleness and calling him a "wanker." Decent reaction for Marella.
(3) MVP defeated Chavo Guerrero. MVP got the win with the Playmaker after a good match between the two. MVP surprisingly got a bit of a weird reaction when he first came out (not as loud as I thought it would be) but the crowd soon warmed to him. Chavo did the usual make fun of Australians routine to some good heat.
(4) Divas champion Maryse defeated Kelly Kelly. Didn't catch the start of the match but it ended with Maryse giving Kelly the DDT for the win. Usual diva eye candy match nothing really noteworthy.
(5) Kofi Kingston defeated William Regal. Kofi wins with a buzzsaw kick, another good match. Started off with some 'You Suck' chants for Regal which he responded with 'I can't suck, I'm not Australian,' which got huge heat from the crowd. Turnbuckle came loose during the match which the ring technicians took some time fixing up.
(6) Cody Rhodes (w/Ted Dibiase) defeated Primo. Pretty boring match that dragged on. Primo came out by himself which I think disappointed a majority of the people who were expecting Carlito. No one really seemed to get into the match probably because it was the first match back from intermission, anyway Cody wins with the corkscrew neckbreaker and Carlito finally makes an appearance to apparently save his brother only to give him the backstabber.
(7) Big Show defeated The Miz. Miz comes out and starts bragging about how everyone in the arena and the WWE lockeroom are jealous of him. He issues an open challenge, which Big Show accepts to a HUGE reaction. (The man is very over down under.) Pretty one-sided ass kicking as you'd expect. Miz got a tiny bit of offense in. Highlight was the spot where Show tells the crowd to shoosh while he slaps Miz's chest which the crowd ate up. Chokeslam ends it.
(8) Triple H defeated WWE champion Randy Orton by DQ after Legacy interference. This was my fourth WWE live event and in my opinion Triple H got probably the loudest pop I've ever heard which didn't surprise me at all. Orton as well got a huge heel response. Pretty slow match. The ending was good with both men hitting their finishers then Legacy attacked Hunter to get the DQ. Big Show came out for the save and ended with Cody Rhodes getting the Pedigree to send everyone home happy. Triple H and Show then got each side of the arena to see who could cheer the loudest, place was deafening.
All in all an awesome night WWE never fails to disappoint with these Live Shows.
